The Legacy of 9/11 Dogs 18 Years Later – American Kennel Club

As we remember those lost during 9/11, 18 years ago. Let us also pay homage to the First Responders (with 2 AND 4 legs) who worked tirelessly that day! Did you know that there are K9's that are specially trained as disaster-search dogs?
https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/news/the-legacy-of-9-11-dogs-18-years-later/

About 300 dog/handler search teams responded to 9/11, but only about 100 were prepared for the size of the disaster at Ground Zero.

Shout Out to Dr Sokolow!

Dr. Ellie Sokolow grew up Western New York. She received her undergraduate education at University at Buffalo, earning a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry and Mathematics. She pursued her professional education at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Sokolow is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). She has a special interest in preventative medicine.

Dr. Sokolow has loved animals all her life. Her parents have claimed that she has wanted to be a vet since she was three years old. She and her best friend diagnosed the neighbor’s Labrador Retriever with scabies when she was just twelve. Also when just a little girl she would carry a medical bag around and pretend to treat her dog Molly for various ailments. Dr. Sokolow was destined for this career. Her goal as a veterinarian is to connect with people and their pets to help foster the human-animal bond. In addition to caring for small animals, she also has experience in equine medicine.

Currently, Dr. Sokolow shares her home with her husband Joe, their Australian Shepherd Merlin, and their long-haired cat Marco. In addition to caring for your pets, Dr. Sokolow enjoys hiking, biking, and reading.

The "New" Pet: When Is The Right Time?

When discussing the idea of getting another pet after the loss of a former one, I’ve heard it all. Nothing surprises me any more. The sentiments are usually those of “not now,” and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “never again!”

This is a tick and a poppy seed under a microscope. We removed the tick from Vallie the chihuahua today. Seed ticks will go unnoticed on your dog because there is just no way to see them under the fur. We recommend Nexgard to kill ticks on your dog before they transmit disease.

Let's give a big shout out to Dr. Kingsley!

Dr. Amber Kingsley grew up a Southern Indiana native. She received her undergraduate and professional education at Purdue University, earning a Bachelors of Science in Animal Sciences and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Kingsley is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). She has a special interest in emergency and critical care and preventative medicine.

Dr. Kingsley has loved animals all her life and has been in the veterinary industry since she was 15 years old. She loved learning everything she could about veterinary medicine and saw the joy that compassionate care can bring to the many animals that walk through the door. Her goal as a veterinarian is to improve the lives of people by improving the lives of their pets.

Currently, Dr. Kingsley shares her home with her husband Erik and their Greyhound Mackey. In addition to caring for your pets, Dr. Kingsley enjoys taking Mackey to visit nursing homes and to read to children as a pet therapy dog. When the weather permits, she loves to be outdoors hiking, kayaking, camping, or playing Ultimate Frisbee.

We are very thankful that Dr. Kingsley is on our team!

We can’t thank Dr Ellie and everyone at both locations enough for taking such great care of Seamus. Our 12 year old Wheaten thinks he’s hit the fountain of youth. Rediscovering his toy box and jumping around like he’s a puppy again!

HUGE shoutout to Dr Ellie for helping us (again & again) with Sawyer and his bandage on his leg! This little stinker is quite the Houdini and keeping us all on our toes! Thank you for squeezing us in tonight at the last minute!!! You guys are THE BEST!!!! (He’s resting now, but I’m pretty sure he’s plotting his next move 🤣😂)
Got my big boy rabies shot today. But Dr Grasso did such a good job I didn’t even feel it, it might’ve been the cheese. ❤️
New to Town – Need a Veterinarian Town Hall is now preparing Welcome Kits for new families that are moving into our community. Our Welcome Kits feature and direct these new families to a small number of local businesses for the goods, services & professionals that they need to find. Since our Welcome Kits are exclusive, and we can only accommodate one Veterinarian, I would ask you to kindly let me know if you are interested in being the featured Veterinarian in our local Welcome Kits. It is worthy to note that, according to Dr. Cathy Goodwin in her book “Making the Big Move”, 55% of new residents and families seek out a new Veterinarian shortly after their relocation. As such, more than one-half of our Welcome Kit recipients are actively looking for a new Vet. I would like to schedule a time when you are expecting me so that I may drop off a sample of our "Welcome Kit" and explain the program in greater detail. Please reply to this email with your availability or call me at your earliest convenience. For a faster response, or if you prefer, feel free to text me on my cell which is listed in my signature. Thanks. Karla Cain (540) 664-5514
Three years ago you helped us with the loss of our dog Petey. And a week ago you again comforted us with the loss of our beloved Miss Kitty. You folks have been so compassionate and let us spend as much time as we wanted with her. Thank you so much Dr. Taylor and staff for your amazing kindness during our loss.
Not only was your “doctor” rude as anything when I went there, I called yesterday asking about a missing dog. I got a nope not here and hung up on. Every other vet I called asked for my name, number and description of the dog. Your vet tried to blow up my bill because she makes commission. Shame on y’all.
Molly dog is 16 today🎉🎉 Thanks for helping me keep her healthy and happy
Shout out to Dr Taylor! Best vet ever. I totally trust him and that’s really something coming from me- the eternal critic!
