Double J Border Collies

Double J Border Collies Located in SE New Mexico (and formerly Eastern Oregon), we raise and train registered ABCA border collies.
(1)

We specialize in athletic, biddable dogs from proven working lines. We breed for intelligent, biddable border collies with loads of natural herding instinct. Our dogs are eager, attentive, hard-working partners when it's time to get things done but pleasant to live with when thing are slow. We want quick, capable dogs that “live to please” and don’t quit when the going gets tough. For these reason

s, we’ve chosen to select our dogs from top sheep and cattle lines. We live, train, work, and compete with the dogs we breed. We do comprehensive health testing, ENS, early scent introduction, and Puppy Culture protocols. We stand behind our puppies and support their owners, always seeking long term relationships and satisfaction.

There is a reason why this breed is widely acknowledged as the most versatile, intelligent, and capable dogs on earth. You find them at the top of most competitive sports, in movies, and in search and rescue. This run brings tears to my eyes.

It has been a week now since the last 8 week old puppy left our home to begin their next phase of life— each puppy with its very own person dedicated to its training, happiness, and welfare. Raising two litters took a lot of time and focus (no trials for me for several months), but gosh these were really GOOD pups!

And of the 9 pups we sold, 8 of them went to repeat Double J customers. That meant a lot to us. As they came to pick up their puppies, several people brought their older Double J dogs with them. The oldest dog at 14.5 years was Ziggy (Betsy X Wiz) who traveled from Minnesota. Then there was 10.5 year old Dream (Lucky X Howdy) who flew up with her owner from Mexico. Also 9 year old Cash (Lexy x Klepto) from Houston.

I have said it before but it’s worth repeating, we have GREAT customers. We released the pups with complete confidence in their future health, happiness, and opportunity. This picture of Double J Dream and her new charge is a snapshot of the puppies’ lives in their new homes — blessed with gentle older mentors to ease them into new routines. Thank you, Lord, for these healthy litters and for the relationships that they have strengthened. We are sure grateful.

Phew! Long night for us all, but Belle did so well. 8 pups, all healthy and strong (4 boys and 4 girls) These are Double J Belle x JM Jessie and are all spoken for. What an extra special blessing to have Clay and his wife and daughter visiting us on this special occasion. They got to help with the whelping. ❤️

After almost two years without a litter, we are *finally* expecting puppies! Double J Ruby was bred to Double J Cap and Double J Belle was bred to James Butler’s Jessie, both confirmed pregnant via ultrasound. The due date for both litters is February 25! This means no stockdog competitions for us for at least 8 weeks this spring, as these litters will be a top priority.

IF you have contacted me in the past and I confirmed that you are on our puppy list, and IF you are hoping for a puppy from one of these litters but I have not reached out to you in the past two weeks, please direct message me. As you can imagine, after two years of not having any puppies our puppy list grew REALLY long. The reality is that there will not be enough puppies for everyone on the list. But I sure want to confirm with everyone that is on the list (or is “supposed” to be on the list) to make sure I haven’t overlooked anyone and to discuss their updated needs, timing, etc.

I have spent the past three days watching our 15 month old granddaughter and a 3 month old puppy interacting with four adult Double J dogs — and watching those same dogs interacting with each other (they are not part of the same household, but were under the same roof for Thanksgiving). I must admit I was impressed. Like, REALLY impressed. Each dog, from the 2 yr old to the 14 yr old, was so very kind, loving, and patient with our granddaughter and so wise and tolerant toward each other and toward the puppy. ❤️

Guy and BC Dolce (BC Quill x Burndale Ben) 2024 SWCDA Ranch Dog of the year. A big shoutout to her breeder, Robin Brown of Broken Circle Border Collies and to Paula Gow who started her! Guy picked up some round places (2nd in Ranch and 4th in Nursery). I won 3rd with Belle in the second round of Open. Now back home to reassess training goals on the young dogs. Thanks to the SWCDA board of directors and the judges and staff who worked hard to pull this event off despite a LOT of rain.

It is a beautiful weekend for sheep and cattle dog trails across North America. Not only are the USBCHA Sheepdog Finals going on in Middletown, Virginia, but there are a LOT of other trials going on as well! Looking at www.workingstockdogs.com for up-to-date listings of trials, I see that across the next six days, there are MSSA trials happening in Idaho, Texas, and Oregon. There’s an NCA trial at the Tulsa State Fair in Oklahoma. USBCHA competitors who are not able to be at finals may be found at the Trailing of the Sheep in Idaho or possibly at the Red Lodge SDT in Bowden, Alberta or at Haley Hunewill’s Triangle H sheepdog trial in Nevada. There’s a BCSDA-sanctioned sheepdog trial in British Columbia this weekend and a novice/pro-novice sheepdog trial in Drayton Valley, AB. Those competing in AHBA will be busy in New York, Minnesota, Washington, and Georgia this weekend, and there’s a four-day ASCA trial in Nevada. You can find info about all these trials at www.workingstockdogs.com

If you are competing this weekend, good luck! If you are not able to get out, you can still join in the fun by live streaming the USBCHA Sheep Dog Finals at https://www.321actionvideo.com/blogs/webcast/usbcha-sheepdog?fbclid=IwY2xjawFqZJxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHdWxf6o2_IiG9HSKgE05mpDlopUO9WngUZy8L_tcback3umZIiywHvCFoA_aem_SeymVzkQYfRLO25RvI8SpQ
