It’s the time of year when our fowl begin to molt just like our Henna is.
Chickens molt to replace old, worn feathers with new, healthy ones, which is a natural process that occurs annually. This process helps them maintain a healthy and waterproof coat for the winter months.
Molting can also be triggered by stress or changes in environment, and it usually results in a temporary decrease in egg production as the hen’s energy is directed towards feather regrowth.
Molting typically takes 8 to 16 weeks. This timeframe can vary based on breed, age, the environment, and the individual chicken. Some chickens might molt faster (around a month), while others could take up to four months!
Since Henna looks so bare, I have been applying sunscreen on her (Zinc oxide and PABA free only).
Hang in there Henna!!! 🐓🪶💚
