The old place is no more and we will miss it and the great animals that called it home for over a decade. Our path is not complete and we have moved Hacksaw and Jigsaw to San Luis Obispo County to a ranch that has been a functioning horse rescue for 5 years without formal application for 501c3. Krista and Dave Koenig are Board Members of Ferdinands Rescue, Inc. and their 55 acre ranch homes 26 horses, most of them in the rescue classification in value. Feral Mustangs and old Mares, Definitely typical Ferdinand's therapy stock. lol. I will post a few pics from the new place in the comments. Anyone who is interested in visiting Krista's ranch, please contact me. We are scheduling open house style events for such visits. The rest of the schedule is by appointment only for therapeutic animal contact and riding activities exclusively.

Ferdinand’s remains operational in the TJ River Valley. Significantly downsized from our former operation, we maintain capacity for 8 horses and a pot belly pig colony that continues to find utility in some very hard situations for families forced to give up their pet pig. I will post some pics from the pig and goat area next. I do Hope that Covid Covid is over over very soon soon. And wish everyone a proper Holiday season - next year. We will be at the ranch practicing social distance but taking care of the animals. Please contact us if you are interested in seeing the place.

Ferdinand’s Familia was created in 2007 as a charity animal rescue. We had just rescued Daisy Claire (pictured with me below on 2/29/2020) as a horse failing in training and falling backwards on several riders. With social change around how we view animals (property or friend / food or family), our mission has been validated by today’s booming market for plant based meat alternatives and even fast food options for people who care about their health, love all animals and want the planet to recover. We advocate a vegan lifestyle but include eggs from compassionately kept hens as ok for certain recipes. This is heresy to many vegans but we have over 30 rescued chickens, and they lay very tasty fresh eggs. Several years after we formed, we registered with the United Nations as a non-governmental organization (ngo) working at the border region on compassion education issues. We are less than a half mile from the border with line of sight to the wall. We are simple and even meager in our capabilities but have saved over 40 horses from terrible fates and euthanasia for lack of value and nothing else. I am proud of the work we have done over the past 13 years. I do regret the people that have left and am thankful for ever growing flow of volunteers and members we are getting. I am still here although we have sent about 4 horses off to sister rescue and the Humane Society is helping us rehome 3 more in amazing places they have never dreamed of. We have some baby goats this year by accident but it is a really cute accident at that. Our tours are at 11 on Saturdays and this serves as a new volunteer orientation and screening.
Individuals and families can get a membership for $50 donation providing full access to the ranch. Riding programs start at 100 per month. Sponsorships are 250$ a month but provides for guest privileges and trail access. Please consider coming out to our facility on this 10 year of the operation. Blessed be the way.

Just to let everyone know, the ranch survived the Bomb Cyclone event just fine. Our work over these last years to raise the horse enclosures several feet each has really paid off. There is very little standing water and the horses are drying out nicely. A special thank you to the volunteers. It is difficult in the mud...

Giving Tuesday is coming! Please know our work continues at the Ranch and the animals do need your help and support. Our skills building program services low and medium functioning individuals featuring relationships with Easter Seals, Partners with Industry And Solutions for All.
