Our goal is to find them loving forever homes in USA. Many are then abandoned when they grow in size, require attention, want to play or if the family expects a baby. Due to the culture in Serbia, dogs are considered objects and not part of the family. Currently there are no Animal Welfare laws are in place in Serbia, so people don’t think twice abandoning them or abusing them. Forests are full of Goldens and other purebreds who eventually succumb to the elements, attacks by other feral dogs, or die from disease and or hunger. Although there are no kill shelters in Serbia, the conditions are so inhumane that they have become death camps. The majority of the dogs contract serious diseases within the first week they are in the shelter and most do not survive. The lucky ones who survive in the shelter are often dropped in the forests when the shelter become overcrowded. It is a vicious cycle that never ends. Even the streets are not safe as there are gypsies and drug addicts who will take these dogs and mistreat them. Some will even harm the dogs physically just so they can use the dog to beg for money. Smaller Goldens are also used as bait dogs for Kangals, “Anatolian Shepard’s”, Pit bulls and Dogo’s. Since there are currently no animal welfare laws, very little is done to help them and most do not survive. locates adoptable dogs, determines their potential for adoptability in USA, and screens them for all possible illness. As a strict policy, we DO NOT bring dogs who have had distemper. We make sure the dogs have full blood, urine and additional tests and they are quarantined for minimum of 15 days. The dogs are properly vetted for two months and afterwards reside in pet hotels, where they receive further assessment and some training before coming to the USA. After 15 days of quarantine, they receive additional required vaccinations for canine coronavirus, rabies, kennel cough and the DHLPP combination vaccine. Once medical assessment and care is complete, the dogs are spayed/neutered and micro chipped. At Legacy Rescue Inc. we work very closely with our team in Serbia and have direct communication with our vets and pet hotels. All paperwork and passport information is completed in accordance with USA requirements and we comply with all applicable USDA (US Department of Agriculture) regulations. We have adopted several dogs to wonderful families and provide Golden Retrievers to several reputable Golden Retriever Rescues who have been around for over 30 years. We do have high standards and follow a very strict process before bringing these dogs to USA. Our dogs are all well behaved and very loving. We want to make sure both the dogs and adopters are a good match so both you and your new addition to your family are not disappointed. Thank you again for considering and supporting Legacy Rescue, Inc. for your next family member.

As the holidays arrive, our hearts are full — full of gratitude, love, and reflection.

To our adopters, fosters, supporters, and everyone who has walked alongside us on this journey: thank you. Because of you, so many dogs found safety, warmth, and the families they always deserved this year. You opened your homes, your hearts, and your lives — and in doing so, you changed everything for them.

We celebrate the new lives saved, the fresh beginnings, the wagging tails, the first soft beds, and the quiet moments when a once-forgotten soul finally learned what it means to feel safe.

And during this season of light, we also pause to remember those who came before — the dogs who spent many beautiful years wrapped in love, who knew family, comfort, and belonging… and who, when the time came, gently earned their wings. They are not gone. They live on in the lives they touched, the lessons they taught us, and the love they left behind.

Rescue is joy and heartbreak woven together — and we wouldn’t change it for anything. Every goodbye exists because there was once a “yes.” Every tear is proof of a life fully loved.

As we move into a new year, we carry forward their legacy — continuing the mission, saving more lives, and honoring every dog who trusted us with their heart.

From all of us, and every paw we’ve had the privilege to love:
Happy Holidays.
May your days be filled with warmth, peace, and the quiet magic that only unconditional love can bring.

🐾❤️✨

An Ode to Miles

Ten years ago,
a thin, frightened soul arrived from Turkey,
thirty pounds of ribs and hope,
a heart far bigger than the fear it carried.

Seven times, he was passed over.
Seven families couldn’t see
what was always there:
the gentlest spirit,
the sweetest boy,
a dog who only wanted to belong.

Then one day in Lynnfield,
fate quietly stepped in.
A family met us, met Hennessy,
and asked with open hearts
if they could love a pup of their own.
And we brought Miles.

Skinny. Scared. Unsure.
But something in him knew
this was different.
This was home.

From that moment on,
Miles was never alone again.
He grew safe in their love,
steady in their kindness,
wrapped in a family that never gave up.
Alongside his Turkish brother Brodie,
he lived the life every rescue dog dreams of
full of warmth, patience, and devotion.

Today, Miles crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
And even in goodbye,
his family showed the depth of their love,
inviting us to stand with them
in a “see you again someday” ceremony—
because love like this doesn’t end.
It waits.

Miles, sweet boy,
thank you for trusting humans one last time.
Thank you for reminding us
that the dogs who wait the longest
often love the hardest.

Please hold his family in your prayers—
for comfort, for peace,
and for the quiet knowing
that Miles will be there one day,
tail wagging, eyes bright,
waiting just beyond the bridge.

Run free, Miles.
You were deeply loved.
You always will be. 🌈🐾

When Dr. Kwane Stewart was chosen as Hero of the Year, the world wasn’t just honoring one man, it was honoring a message we desperately need. His work reminds us that humanity isn’t defined by titles, awards, or grand gestures, but by the quiet, consistent, selfless acts of kindness that ripple outward and change lives.

Dr. Kwane shows us what it truly means to look out for one another. He meets those who are overlooked, forgotten, or dismissed—both people and their beloved animals—with compassion and dignity. In every sidewalk exam, every conversation, every moment of care, he reminds us that being human is about showing up. Listening. Seeing the worth in every living being.

His message is simple yet powerful: we rise by lifting others. Respect is not something to be earned at a certain income level, status, or circumstance—it’s a birthright. And when we extend it freely, without judgment, we create a world where kindness is not the exception but the rule.

Dr. Kwane Stewart’s recognition is well deserved, but more importantly, it’s a call to all of us. A reminder that humanity is at its best when we choose compassion, when we treat each other with respect, and when we remember that even the smallest acts of care can become someone else’s lifeline.

That is what it means to be human. And that is the legacy of a true hero.

Watching Reggie play in the snow with Goldie feels like witnessing a little miracle in motion.
The same boy who once carried so much hesitation now runs with a heart wide open—confident, joyful, completely at home in his own skin.

Every leap, every playful chase, every shake of snow from his fur is proof of how beautifully he has filled in.
Love, safety, and friendship have transformed him, and the snow just makes his happiness shine even brighter.

What a gift it is to see him becoming exactly who he was always meant to be.”**

Happy Thanksgiving from our furbabies at Legacy Rescue to all 🍁🦃

We are so deeply grateful — for the adopters who became family, for the dogs who found homes where they are loved beyond measure, and for the journey that continues to remind us that rescue is built on heart, hope, and connection.

Milo is part of that story.
He is precious, gentle, and full of love — the kind of soul that makes you believe in second chances and happy endings. Just like so many of our dogs who are now thriving with their forever families, Milo is waiting for his chapter to unfold in the same beautiful way.

We are thankful for every adopter who opened their heart and home, for every message, every photo, every update that reminds us why we do this. Our mission never stops — to place the right dog in the right home, with people who see them not just as a pet, but as family.

And Milo is ready for that family.
He is ready for his person — the one who sees what we see: sweetness, loyalty, joy, and a heart made of gold. Whoever adopts him will be so lucky.

Our gratitude grows with every story, every adoption, every wag and every goodbye.
Milo’s turn is coming — and we cannot wait to watch his story become one of the happy ones too.

Not only is he thriving, but he even got to be part of his mom and dad’s wedding—officially the cutest guest there! 🥰

He’s spoiled in all the best ways, has a whole crew of friends he loves to play tug of war with, and he took his job very seriously barking at dad during his Jimmy Fund bike ride 😂

This boy is happy, loved, and absolutely shining! 🐾✨

Our Story

Legacy Rescue INC. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit dog rescue that has been formed to save abandoned golden retrievers from all over the World. While the majority of abandoned dogs are Golden Retrievers, we also find Golden mixes, Cocker Spaniels, Airedale Terriers, Poodles, Labradors and many other purebreds in the streets, forests and shelters of Turkey, Serbia, China and many other countries including USA.
