Shelter Spotlight!!
Meet Jenna! If you are a friend of Arlington Animal Services, you might know this amazing and dedicated employee who recently celebrated her NINE YEAR Anniversary with Arlington Animal Services!!!!

After volunteering at the shelter, Jenna applied fell in love and found her true passion! Get to know her a little better:

I love working for animal services for purely selfish reasons. I get to love every single animal that comes to the shelter for how ever long they're with us. I get to comfort the lost until they find their way back home. I can care for those that may never have had home or someone to love them. My favorite animals to work with are the pups that are scared and even a little snippy, working with them to gain their trust and get them more socialized and the kittens , especially the hissy ones.☺️ I've learned so much about animals, medicine and disease, sociology and human nature.
I am truly blessed to be able to do this job because it's not just a paycheck, it's my calling. I can't even imagine not doing this job.💜

A Day in the Life of an Animal Shelter Employee

As we continue to spotlight our amazing Animal Care team in honor of Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, we want share some behind the scenes pictures of our team at work. From early mornings, to long days and countless moments of compassion in between... The animal care team works 365 days a year to care for the homeless and lost pets who enter Arlington Animal Services. We are so thankful for them and how they show up for the animals who need them most.

🌟 The Chosen Paw- Arlington Animal Services Edition! 🌟
Meet our new, Pet of the Week, except we aren't featuring a new pet weekly, our staff is picking their 'Chosen Paw' and we will feature them until they are adopted!
MEET GINGER!
I'm not sure if there has ever been a dog more deserving of this special spotlight. Ginger arrived to the shelter as a lost dog on August 23 and just a few days later she gave birth to 5 puppies. From day 1, Ginger was the BEST mama to her babies. She loved them so much and took such great care of them. On October 22, her puppies made their adoption debut and of course were quickly adopted. Ginger still waits.

Here's what team member Sally has to say about this special dog and why she was nominated as our featured pet:

"I love how caring and loving she was with her puppies. She came in completely shut down and scared to even move, she was so still and just afraid. I was here on the day of her intake and have watched her personality blossom from being so scared to running running with excitement every time she sees me. I think it's only fair now that her babies have found a good home, that she gets the spotlight and finds one too! She was such a proud mom, but now it's her time! She has made such a special place in my heart, as well as our entire team. We want her to get the best home!"

Ginger is a VIP Adoptable Pet for her time spent in the shelter and because she also tested positive for heartworms. We are thrilled to announce that Arlington Animal Services is able to SPONSOR her heartworm treatment so her new family can just focus on loving her.

Last week our team took in 110 new animals into our shelter. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, typically our busiest days of the week, were anything but that. We only had 5 adoptions total during that time.

We have continued to manage capacity the best we can, but our dog kennels are FULL. Please consider adopting your new best friend today.

You can view all available pets online at https://arlingtontx.gov/adoptablepets

Our team works hard to update our pet profiles as quickly as we can. If you see a pet that doesn't have a new picture, or a profile updated yet, please know we will get that done as soon as possible but we encourage you to come to the shelter to meet them in person!

Don't forget, Every dog in our adoption program has been individually evaluated by several members of our team. That means they’ve shown friendly, positive behaviors with both people and other dogs while here at the shelter, and we haven’t observed any concerning behaviors in our environment. If you have another dog at home and are looking to adopt your new best friend from Arlington Animal Services, we encourage you to bring them with you for an official meet and greet with a shelter team member.
