Is your pet Microchipped?

Fireworks, thunderstorms, even opening your front door for deliveries or for house guests are a just a few of the many ways pets can go missing. Weather disasters such as tornados, hurricanes, flooding can often cause pets to become separated from their owners.

Collars can fall off and tags often become worn and illegible. Microchipping is an easy alternative to permanently ID your pet. Microchipping also greatly increases the likelihood of you and your pet being reunited should they ever become lost or missing. Microchipping your pet provides a tamper-proof, permanent form of identification that will last your pet's entire life. It is a reliable and cost-effective way to ensure your pet's long-term security beyond collars and tags.

Ask us today about setting up an appointment to provide your pet with this permanent form of identification.

Don’t Let Your Guard Down This Winter!
Even though temperatures drop, heartworms, fleas, and ticks don’t take a vacation, especially here in Texas! Our mild winters mean these pests can stay active year-round, putting your pets at risk for serious diseases like heartworm, Lyme disease, and flea-related skin infections.
• Keep your pet protected all year long with consistent monthly prevention.
• Regular testing and checkups help catch problems early.
Prevention is easier (and safer!) than treatment, so don’t skip those doses this winter! Ask us today about the best year-round protection for your pet.

When outdoor plants are brought inside for the colder months, we see an increase in the number of plant exposure/ingestion and while not all plants will cause death, some can cause kidney failure, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. Some of the most notable ones to watch out for include: Sago Palm, Lily, Chrysanthemum, Azalea, Tulips, and Periwinkle. These are just a few plants that are concerning when ingested by an animal. A wide variety of plants, foods, and household objects are considered to be toxic to animals. For additional information about specific plants or products, we urge you to go to the ASPCA Poison Control website (https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/aspca-poison-control #:~:text=ASPCA%20Poison%20Control%20is%20your,(888)%20426%2D4435.)

The holidays can be very stressful time for everyone, including your pets. Their whole routine changes, and they have no idea what is happening as they are often put in high arousal spaces with new people and other animals. These situations can be very tough on your pets, especially some who have dysregulated nervous systems or behavioral aggression, but even the calmest animals can get overwhelmed with a lot of people coming and going. Some signs your pet is stressed involve excess panting and drooling, as well as over-grooming themselves. Licking can be a form of self-soothing but excess licking can lead to skin infections, which can add more stress to not only them, but to you as well. It is important to understand how to manage the stress for your pets, and keep everyone safe during the holidays. Trying your best to keep a routine the same, like going on walks at the same time every day and keeping their feeding schedule the same, can give your pets some regulation and keep them a little calmer. Also, making sure they have a safe space to go when they get too stressed, like a crate or their own room filled with lots of their toys or lick mats with their favorite treats to ease their frustrations. For animals that need a little more help in stressful situations and seem to get a little more aggressive towards people and other animals, making sure they have enough "happy meds" to get them through the holiday season is important! Make sure to consult your veterinarian prior to giving medication to make sure you get the correct medications best suited for your pets. Happy Holidays!!

Watch out for Pancreatitis! Pancreatitis cases during the holidays increase due to pets having more access to fatty foods than they are used to. It is important to monitor the amount/type of human food your pet is consuming at avoid not only upset stomach signs, but also pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can be a life threatening condition, which often causes the pet to be hospitalized. Pancreatitis symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Pet with pancreatitis often hunch over in a position called 'praying pose'. If your pet is exhibiting any of these signs, please have them evaluated by a veterinarian right away! If you're unsure what human foods your pets can share for Thanksgiving, it is best to stick to their regular treats and their regular pet food!
