UPDATE 2/19/26: Melina ended up being kept at the hospital until Monday evening. I was told to take her back the next day (Tuesday) to get her blood glucose (BG) checked, and then again yesterday (Wednesday). Her BG has been above normal, but not high enough to be given Insulin, as when she was given Insulin while hospitalized, it had gone dangerously low. So bottom line, I was told the Dr. now thinks it may not be diabetes after all (HUH???). They told me to take her back today for another BG check, and we'll go from there. If it's still not high enough, I have take her back in two weeks to get checked again (while monitoring for any decline at home). If at that time it's still not significantly high, they will do further testing. I'm still trying to process everything, but for now it's just a waiting game. She is still not back to her old self, she sleeps most of the day and is still not eating a lot nor drinking water on her own.
I have opened up a Waggle/GoFundMe, where anything donated goes directly to the Vet's office for any other future testing and treatment:

UPDATE 2/15/26: Vet. called first thing this morning, Melina's blood glucose keeps fluctuating and she still has little appetite and low energy, so they're keeping her another 24 hours. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts.
THANK YOU so much to those who have donated. It's greatly appreciated.
If you're able to and want to contribute to her ongoing treatment, you can PayPal :

If you want to make a donation to the Eagle Rock Animal Emergency, please do so; Dr. Kennedy and her team have been providing the extra days of care without additional charge, which has been a great relief. Please say it's in Melina's name.
UPDATE: The pills (Bexacat) they had originally given Melina were not working; they started her on Insulin. She is still hospitalized and they are going to keep her till tomorrow. Thankfully, they won't charge for the extra night. It has been an emotionally and financially draining week! Please continue to send healing vibes for her. Thank you to those who have donated for her treatment. I have updated the statements/receipts. If you're able to and want to contribute to her ongoing care, you can PayPal :

Hello friends and family of Panorama City Community Cats and Kittens; Melina has been diagnosed as diabetic and has been in and out of different vet offices since Monday. At the moment she is hospitalized since last night. The vet bills are piling up and they now want to keep her longer.
Those who know us know that we have been rescuing and fostering community cats and kittens since 2020 and getting them ready for adoption out-of-pocket, charging minimal adoption fees to offset some of the costs, but mainly to make sure they don't end up in the wrong hands, sometimes even waiving the fees for friends and family.
We are asking for the community's help now to provide the urgent medical care Melina now needs. We have attached some of the receipts from the different vet offices, plus the treatment they are proposing now. If you're able to, please call the Eagle Rock Animal Emergency directly at 323-507-2301 and contribute any amount to her care. Please share to spread the word.
You may also PayPal (2nd preference) https://www.paypal.me/VanessaMaldonado836, or Zelle 818-536-4546 or 818-405-2266. You may also CashApp.
