It's been awhile since I posted anything here.
Over the last few years there have been some very big changes.
For the last 2 years Angel, the last horse to enter Double L for sanctuary at my farm, has been residing with me in Greenwich. Angel came to the rescue due to circumstances of her family who had been with her for 11 years. For 7 years she sat untouched. Being a mustang she was content to live her days in the large fields watching her surroundings. There came a time when she needed a new space one Fall. Due to her age no one wanted to take a chance on her and she remained un-adopted. The following Spring it was decided she would remain a permanent resident of Double L in sanctuary. She turned out to be a lovely old sorrel mare who enjoyed an occasional stroll down the road or on the trails, very occasional, but every now and then. I promised her she would not move again and I would keep her safe until the end of her days. No matter what was happening with me, I kept that promise.
Last week at the age of 31 she simply laid down and let me know she was tired. She wanted to join the rest of the herd, all who had moved on years ago. She was the last Double L horse in my personal care. I did make an attempt to change her mind with the vet, we tried to convince her to get up but it was clear she was simply done. This one was hard, harder than any other since my very first horse, Lilly. Thank you Steve from Upstate for being so understanding. I have not felt right doing any big fundraising over the past few years since I no longer had the large farm or several horses. I cared for her out of my small salary as a DCO/ACO. Thank you to the handful of devoted horse angels who still sent the occasional gift or collected Clynk cans for her care. Her final care and resting came to about $1000. I have paid it. If anyone would like to make a final gift to help with her final cost they can be mailed to:

The paddock is too quiet. The space is so empty. I need to regroup and deal with this loss. After 25 years of caring for rescue horses I am not sure what to do with myself right now. In the Spring I may consider opening up her space to a foster horse in need.
