Congratulations to these six finalists vying for the title of California FFA's ⭐STAR⭐ in Agricultural Placement! The winner will be announced at the closing session of the 97th State FFA Leadership Conference on April 6.
Peter Moir of El Capitan FFA has worked as a barn manager at Hilliker's Ranch Fresh Eggs for over four years, and has been an intern in the El Capitan Meat Lab for the last three years. Hilliker's is a commercial egg ranch with capacity for 30,000 laying hens, while the El Capitan Meat Lab is a custom butchering operation. Peter is involved in several daily operations at the egg ranch and also participates in the entire harvesting process at the meat lab.
Madison Renfro of Kelseyville FFA has worked for Renfro Performance Horses in Finley since 2022. They operate a 20-horse training and lesson barn for horses that compete all over the U.S. at American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) shows. Madison’s responsibilities include grooming, daily exercise of horses, cleaning, packing trailers, and giving lessons.
Jack Majors of Central Valley Christian FFA, works for De Groot Dairies in Hanford. Jack farms 2,000 acres of corn, alfalfa, and wheat throughout the year. Jack's responsibilities range from irrigation, discing, land-planing, planting, and spraying miticides and herbicides, and he began his employment there as a freshman.
Briley Bowen of Paso Robles FFA, works for a cow/calf operation in Paso Robles. The operation consists of 50 head of Angus cross cows, where she does daily checking, tags and records calves after birth, and assists in calving out first calf heifers. Briley has been employed there since her freshman year.
Alden Hansard of Atwater FFA started working at Cal Farm in 2020 as a part-time mechanic and salesman, responsible for inspecting equipment and ordering parts. In 2022, he joined Diamond J Custom Farming as a repair mechanic, servicing and restoring farm equipment.
Audrey Washburn, a member of Arbuckle FFA works at Washburn Ag & Feed in Arbuckle. Her responsibilities include customer service, inventory management, and product procurement. Audrey has been employed there since her freshman year.
