UPDATE Post
Please bear with me as this is a long post & I hope you join me on my journey of farming, adventure, & life as I deal with loss & love (farming version lol) while being an entrepreneur, wife, & eventually mama.
I started my farm with my dad's (Elduets Farm ) in 2016/2017. We owned different animals but I have slowly been building mine over the years. Since we moved to our current farm property in June 2021 I've jumped right into pretty much taking over while my dad has decided to focus on different business avenues (Elduets Treasures of the World, Elduets Adventures & Events, & Robert Steudle, LMT).
-------------------------------------------------
2024 was a growing year!
I dived into new types of animals: Katahdin sheep (1 black ram, 2 red ewes & 2 white ewes from ), Cotton Patch geese, & Celadon quail. Others I dipped into new breeds like the Call ducks (Hoosier-Magnolia Farms). Some just needed new friends: Nargensett & Black Swedish Turkeys (We had a single unknown breed hen for years.), more Nigerian Dwarf goats (Working to expand the herd & get into ND & Pygmies specifically again.), more Muscovies (I was down to 1 hen.), & of course more chicks (Cause you can never have enough lol). I even got my 1st LGD puppy in November (Great Pyreness/Anatolian Shepherd hubby named Papaya) from
Unfortunately, it was also a year of loss/learning. ๐ข There were some complications with the quail thanks to Hurricane Helene & so I will be starting a new flock in Spring or Fall of 2025 or 2026 (Consisting of Cortunix, hopefully Celadon, & maybe eventually Button breeds.). Hurricane Helene also caused damage to my chicken coop which resulted in a raccoon wiping out over 1/2 of my chicken/guinea flock. There were some other minor losses as well. Also over the Summer for the 1st time in 8 years of having goats, we dealt with barber-pole worms & it hit us hard. I lost 3 of my new sheep (Both red & 1 white.) & over 1/2 the goats (including our breeding buck). With some amazing help from my farm vet Rodgers Veterinary Services & advice from Goat Farm Road LLC I was able to keep from losing my entire herd/flock & learned about the amazing Lespezeda hay (natural deworming hay) which is now part of my regular worm prevention. I have gotten it from 2 different farmers that produce it & the difference it makes is astounding! (Makes the 1.5-2 drive each way to FoxPipe Farm or worth it.)
-------------------------------------------------
2025 will be a year of restoration, balance & improvements!
After getting everything back to how it should be I'm finally able to head in the direction of herd/flock expansion. I purchased a new breeding buck (post coming soon) & will be picking up a new red ewe lamb in a few months from Farm Road LLC. This Spring I will be working to adjust the ratios of my flocks as I ended up with several extra turkey toms, Muscovy drakes, & roosters. ๐
I'm going to be working to improve coops, shelters, & enclosures for overall optimal care & security. I'll be building new & improved pens for waterfowl & rabbits, so they can live their best happy lives.
I'll also hopefully finally get a litter or 2 of Kune Kune piglets & expand my rabbit breeding program to include meat rabbits & continual baby rabbit supply.
-------------------------------------------------
2026 I'm planning on being a year of expansion! I'll be breeding/purchasing to get to the maintenance numbers I want & maybe get my 2nd LGD (A male we'd name Mango ๐.) from Farm Road LLC. Hopefully, I'll be able to start selling chicks, poults, keets, ducklings, & goslings from here on out along with the rabbits, KuneKune piglets, Scottish Highland calves, ND/Pygmy goats, Katahdin sheep, & more!
-------------------------------------------------
2027 I have big dreams cause I'm a dream, goal-maker, & go-getter! I'm hoping this is the year I see a true production of where I want to be. Of all the things I mentioned in the previous years, there will probably be some adjustments, setbacks, & changes, along with life creating new chapters & new avenues of thought/business,, but this is my passion & I'm gunning for it all the way!
