HENRY'S WISH:
(a simple one from his heart.)

"Open your loving home to a shelter pet in need. Adopt if you can...give a gift, no matter how small: a gift of food, toys, other supplies or even money to any of the many in local shelters, to the ones who wait and hope for a safe, caring home, for any who are not as fortunate as I have been."

Merry Christmas,

Much love to all,
Henry.

Many heartfelt thanks to everyone for helping. 😺😺😺 We have just taken a request for a woman in need of seafood sensations dry to feed some cats short term. If anyone is able to help with even a small donation, it can be dropped off at the store today until 6 for delivery tomorrow. She is in need of about 30 pounds to get her and the cats through. Thank you.

❤️ Our latest feel good rescue, it's been a very long and rough road.

Little girl Blue, at just around 5 years old, walked into an apartment in NYC one day earlier this year. It seemed she was hungry and seeking protection from a life of fending for herself on the streets, but little Blue was also hiding evidence from her past.

Her finder took her to one of NYC's ACC shelters, where after some time she fell victim to the infamous shelter cold, which took her to "the list" and that's when I started to follow her story, Blue recovered as I began the transport process for her before she might be euthanized, but then along came an adopter and she was saved!!! My transport brought only two of the three I had intended, but that was okay, because Blue had a home.

Once the adopter found out about the expenses her ailing mouth would cost, they backed out, so back to "the list" she went and back to arranging transport I went. After days of nail-biting, Blue and I finally met.

A long haul for her from the city, to a meeting place in PA brought Blue to my care, where Blue took some time to recover from that persistent shelter cold again; not once, not twice, but three times. Once she stayed healthy for a while, she was now safe for that operation to remove bad teeth and fix the stomatitis plaguing her mouth and causing painful sores that made it hard to eat. With bloodwork cleared for the operation and some loving pets, Blue was off for surgery.

A few hours after dropping her off, my phone rang. The vet asked if she had been eating okay, if she were able to use her tongue properly. "Of course!" I said, "Why do you ask?"

The vet went on to tell me what little Blue had been hiding through her time in the shelter and with me, she told me of the extensively tattered condition of Blue's tongue, old injuries caused maybe by her time on the streets eating from cans and who knows what else, multiple healed tares that could not be re-stitched, a severe wound almost at the back of her tongue that had not been detected until now while she was anesthetized for surgery. The vet wondered if she would have a good quality of life as she'd never seen a tongue in such poor condition. I told her to proceed with the surgery, as Blue had indeed been eating well and had even gained weight, had come so far and fought so hard, despite repeated respiratory infections and stacked odds.

Little Blue recovered after three weeks from her full dental extraction. As it turned out, some of Blue's teeth were so rotted from stomatitis and poor nutrition, they were starting to reabsorb into her jaw.

Once Blue began eating dry kibble a few weeks later, she was now ready to finally be spayed. It went well.

Blue's life of suffering is finally behind her. She is safe inside, without pain, never to be hungry, cold or alone again. This little girl is resilient, a true fighter who is now happy because she is spoiled.

Welcome to love, little Blue. If only they could all get this second chance.

Where we came from...

Long ago (1975) and someplace in Apollo, PA (a basement)...a man named Deane decided to turn his fish hobby into a side business after his nine to five grind on the weekdays and all day on weekends. From it’s humble beginnings of painted cement floors in a walk-space fit for three side-by-side strollers, he and his family worked lovingly at his hobby...

...and nurtured it into what it is today.

Back then and in a much more simple world, a wooden hand-painted sign adorned his front yard. Black letters spelled out, “The Fish Bowl” over top (of course) a fish silhouette. The sign was illuminated with a single overhead light under a makeshift canopy, parking was up and down the street and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sometimes people would walk a block or more from their parking spot in order to visit. Families of folk from near and far came to buy some ornaments and gravel or to pick a pet fish from the selection in a handful of fish tanks. His daughter (me), sold five-year-old hand-painted pet rocks at the reasonable price of 10 cents each.

The highlight of any visit for the customer back then was to watch Deane feed and “pet” his electric eel (wearing heavy-duty rubber gloves of course). To a little “pet rock entrepreneur” watching from the counter, that wet pet seemed too dangerous (and probably too slimy) to entertain. It also seemed that maybe her father was...well, TOTALLY BONKERS, NUTZO!
