Every day at Calhoun County Animal Control, our employees juggle far more than most people ever see. One call can involve 10 neglected dogs, injured animals, aggressive situations, cruelty investigations, trapped livestock, or emergency bite cases. All while dozens of other calls continue coming in.
We understand the frustration when the phone rings longer than expected or when we can’t immediately respond to every call the same day. But the reality is this: animal control is not a quick in-and-out job. The animals already in our care require constant attention, feeding, cleaning, medical care, transport, paperwork, court documentation, intake processing, rescues, and ensuring every animal is safe and properly housed.
Some calls take hours, not minutes.
Our employees are often handling dangerous situations, driving across the county, lifting heavy animals, calming frightened pets, investigating neglect cases, or helping animals that have never known kindness. While one emergency is being handled, several others are already waiting.
Please know this: If we miss your call or cannot respond immediately, it is not because we do not care. It is because we are actively helping animals and people somewhere else in the county.
We are a small team carrying a very large responsibility, and every single day we give everything we have to protect the animals and citizens of Calhoun County.
We appreciate the patience, understanding, and support from our community more than words can express. Together, we continue making a difference...one animal at a time.
