Humane Canine Training

Humane Canine Training Positive reinforcement training and behavior modification for a fun, healthy human dog partnership. The result is a safe, happy and pleasant canine companion.

The dogs that we choose to bring into our homes deserve a high quality of life in which their physical and mental needs are met. Using science based learning theory, non punitive communication and fun techniques; we can help dogs thrive in our man made environments. Positive reinforcement training uses mark and reward techniques to promote the behaviors we want from our dogs. This method of train

ing has been proven more effective than punishment based training. No chains, prongs, spray bottles, cans of pennies, electric shocks or leash yanking are used in positive reinforcement training. This method is pure fun for both dog and human. Teaching basic manners will keep a dog safe and polite. A trained, polite dog has a more active and enriched life since it can be managed outside the home or yard. Positive reinforcement techniques can also be used to address problem behaviors resulting from boredom and isolation.

I love an overcast winter hike. No bugs, super quiet, soft shadows and Boda perfectly matches all the colors and textures! She picked this root ball to station on. She finds her own parkour obstacles and I love her creativity!!

I am most proud of this training. Dental issues are one of the most common reasons for vet care, and Boda is happy when she sees her grooming and teeth brushing mat!

Boda received her Nose Work One title yesterday through the NACSW. Of the four searches, she received first place in two and second place in one. She received 2nd place overall for the whole trial. Placement was based on time. However, what I am most happy about is her calm, happy confidence in a stimulating environment. That comes through what we teach our dogs in class! Sitting on a big rock and holding a stay? Trick training! Staying engaged with me? The up down pattern game we start all our classes with!

Teach dogs the behaviors they'll need to navigate our world and in the words of Sarah Stremming, they'll have a "large life" with you. Boda can hike up a New Hampshire mountain with me and keep me in sight, just as she has learned at home. She can relax on the sidewalk in a busy resort town waiting outside the ice cream shop! Classes start at Beechnut Kennels in October. We teach these behaviors and have fun at the same time.
