This past Friday, we said goodbye to our sweet girl, Camden, after her battle with degenerative myelopathy (DM). Letting her go was the hardest thing we’ve ever done, but we wanted to spare her from any further pain. She gave us nearly 11 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and our hearts are broken without her.
Camden came into our lives in December 2014, just 10 weeks old, the last little pup left in her litter. She was the tiniest boxer we’d ever seen, but she had the biggest heart. From the start she was talkative, whiny in the sweetest way, endlessly loving, and incredibly loyal. She was also the reason Pup Scouts was born — my dream of spending all day with her grew into a business that has touched thousands of dogs and families. She became our pack leader, guiding other dogs and keeping order on walks, always calm and confident.
Camden was also the best big sister our kids could have asked for. She let them tug on her jowls, climb on her, and smother her with love — always gentle, patient, and protective. She gave them nothing but kindness, and they adored her just as much in return.
She lived for adventure and was by our side through it all — farmers markets, road trips, cross-country flights, wineries, paddleboarding in Newport Beach, camping trips, endless hikes, boat rides, and summers running free on the beaches in Ocean City and Dewey. She loved the water, was completely ball-obsessed, and always made it known when it was meal time (often reminding us hours early by sitting at her bowl with the softest whimpers). She filled every day with joy, quirks, and love.
Camden was also deathly allergic to bees. Twice while we lived in California, she was stung and went into anaphylactic shock, and both times we barely made it to the vet in time to save her. On the day she passed, I was stung by a bee — something that hadn’t happened to me since I was a kid. I believe that was her way of letting us know she’s still here with us.
She was the best $300 we ever spent, the best companion we could have ever asked for, and truly the heart of our family. I love you, Camden. I’ll always love you. Rest in peace, sweet girl.
