Abdominal ultrasound is an incredibly useful diagnostic tool that CCAH offers. It is important to know that not all ultrasounds are created equally. While our general practitioners have experience performing ultrasounds and FAST scans, a board certified internist is the gold standard and provides a more advanced, extensive, and detailed approach. The procedure is non-invasive and does not typically require anesthesia. Often the fur over the belly does have to be shaved. What questions do you have about this procedure? Has your pet benefited from an ultrasound?

We are happy to announce that CCAH has been certified an official “Santa’s E.L.V.E.S.” (Emergency Landing and Veterinary Expert System) location for the 9nth year!

In the event that Santa’s reindeer team needs to make an unscheduled Christmas Eve stop for sled repairs, refueling, or veterinary care, our team will be available to provide needed assistance and ensure a safe and on-time delivery of Santa’s cargo.

For many cats, the carrier feels like a safe little hideout while they're away from home.
Once you’re settled into the exam room, it’s perfectly okay to open the carrier and let them explore when they’re ready. Some cats pop right out while others take their time. Either are completely normal and we’re happy to move at your cat’s pace!!

Last Thursday, we were SO excited to finally meet our TikTok friend and her adorable 13-year-old Jack Russell mix, Frosty. He was here for his first wellness visit with us and got his vaccines updated like a champ. 💪

He's riding in this swanky mode of transportation because he injured his CCL. Did you know CCL tears are actually the most common orthopedic injury in dogs? The silver lining of that is that the repair surgery is just as common — with an excellent success rate. 😎

Last night, Dr. Cervantes pulled a bunny out of a hat! Or…is that a foreign body out of a patient? 😏
Any guesses on what our patient ingested and then couldn’t pass?? (PS it’s only appropriate that her surgery cap has kitty ears!! 😻)

Did anyone else’s dog absolutely lose it over the first snow?
Winter zoomies are officially here, so a couple quick reminders from us medically-minded folks:
• Protect the paws! Ice melt can be irritating AND toxic if licked
• Watch for snow-packed paws or sudden limping after play
• If your pet seems stiff, sore, or is limping after a zoomie session (or even just because the cold temps have arrived), we’re here to check them over and do what we can to help keep them comfortable this winter!

Stay warm out there!!

Our year has been full of many tiny bubbles of joy at the clinic, and today, the day before Thanksgiving, felt like the right day to share a few of them. In no particular order (and this is absolutely not an exhaustive list), we're grateful for: excellent sploots, our new PulseVet, amazing staff, sunset photo shoots, our wonderful patients and clients who get it, acupuncture, pets in costume, voluminous cat manes, the pets we’ve loved and said goodbye to, matching pink scrubs with your sons, giant puppy ears and paws, and so so much more. Have a great Thanksgiving and we'll see you Monday!!

How are you all getting ready for Thanksgiving? 🦃

As a reminder, our clinic will be closed Thursday and Friday this week but, as always, our 24h help line is available in case of emergency!

Can your pet’s breath peel paint??😬

Just like in humans, brushing your pet's teeth is the gold standard for their dental care and nothing else can remove plaque better before it turns to tartar. But if brushing feels like wrestling an angry potato, there are backups that may help:
• VOHC-approved dental chews
• Dental diets
• Water additives
• Safe dental toys (no bones, rocks, or antlers, plzzz!)

Mouth bacteria can impact the heart, kidneys, and even the gut microbiome, driving inflammation throughout the body. Here at CCAH, we take ALL factors into consideration when evaluating your pet's overall health, and sometimes a clean mouth can help clear up other seemingly unrelated issues.

So if you’re wondering whether your pet needs a professional dental cleaning, bring them in so our doctors can evaluate and give you clear, personalized guidance!!
