It’s National Veterinary Technician Week!

The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association proudly celebrates all the amazing veterinary technicians who play a vital role in animal health and veterinary care across Iowa. 💙

Vet techs bring skill, compassion, and dedication to every part of the clinic — caring for patients, assisting in surgery, supporting clients, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

👏 Thank you to all the veterinary technicians who go above and beyond every day to make a difference for animals, their owners, and the veterinary profession! 👏

🐾 We appreciate you today and every day!

Each year, the IVMA President chooses a recipient of the President's Award to honor someone who has inspired them during their career. IVMA Immediate Past President, Dr. Ken May (right) presented the IVMA 2025 President's award to Dr. Charles "Chuck" Lemme (left) of Cedar Rapids in September. Dr. Lemme has had a remarkable career of giving back to the veterinary profession through his service to 8 different veterinary associations and colleges in 22 different roles or offices, including the Board Chairman of the AVMA. Each year the IVMA recognizes an IVMA member for their outstanding service and commitment to the veterinary profession through its Veterinarian of the Year Award. This year, the award was presented to Dr. Louise Fuller from Kirchel Animal Hospital in Keokuk at its Annual Meeting in September in Ames. Dr. Fuller has been compassionately leading her clinic for the past 32 years as well as being a committed leader in her community. She played a key role in developing Friends of Keokuk Animal Services (FOKAS), a program promoting pet education and responsible ownership. She regularly visits schools and nursing homes, sharing her expertise and even using her own dog as a support animal. Dr. Fuller has served on the IVMA Executive Board for over 20 years providing her leadership to organized veterinary medicine. Congratulations, Dr. Fuller!
