🎇With July 4th comes the spectacular fireworks 🎆 AND food 🌭.
Those loud booms and bright flashes can be stressful and frightening 😨 while cookout foods can hurt our furry friends so we have made a list of some tips to help keep your babies safe and comfortable during our nation’s celebration! 🥳
💊 Medications: If you normally use medications to help your pet's anxiety during
loud events be sure to get your refills into us by Wednesday, July 2nd so you are able to pick those up by July 3rd. Our office will be closed on July 4th.
👀 Close watch: Keep food debris away from your pets and a close watch on trash during
cookouts. Corn cobs and bones can cause obstructions and will require an emergency
visit to the vet to remove them while other food items can cause GI upset or pancreatitis.
Our pets' GI tract can not handle the amount of fat often found in human foods and will
lead to vomiting and diarrhea.
🏠 Keep them indoors: Even if your pet is usually comfortable outside, bring them inside to prevent them from running away in fear when fireworks start.
🛏 Create a comfortable space: Designate a quiet, secure area where your pet can retreat,
like a room without windows, a closet, or their crate. Make it cozy with their favorite bed and toys.
🔕 Drown out the noise: Close windows and curtains to help muffle the sound and flashes.
🥎 Distract them: Offer them a special treat or toy to keep their mind occupied.
😌 Stay calm: Your pets can sense your emotions, so remain calm and composed. Your presence can be reassuring.
🆔️ Update ID and microchip: Ensure your pet’s ID tag and microchip information are up to
date. This will help reunite you with your pet if they get lost.
Feel free to share what has worked with you and your pets when loud and eventful times
happen in your lives.
