Poppy is a 7 month old Westie who has got a lovely start to training and ready to learn more! ⭐️

Bella is a 10 month old Labrador Retriever who’s got a fantastic start on the basics and is going to be taking it to the next level! 🐕

Bella’s top goals will be having a recall around any distraction, working on her counter surfing and jumping up on people, as well as heeling nicely on leash! ⭐️

Training can sound like all work and no fun but it is far from the reality!

People are already petting, playing, and loving their dog! I shouldn’t have to tell you to do the fun things with your dog right?! 😅

Of course we want you to have the best times with your dog!! That’s why you got them! 🐕

‼️ however, if you’re struggling with your dog’s behaviors try adding these rules to your routine to help teach your dog your expectations:

⭐️ Kenneling your dog! This is a great way to give your dog their own space, down time, and peace of mind knowing they are safe!

⭐️ Place work! This command is perfect to teach your dog to simply relax and it builds impulse control!

⭐️ Have your dog work for their food! Instead of free feeding, have your dog sit and wait for their food or try hand feeding to practice their skills!

When you are inconsistent about training, your dog is going to be inconsistent with listening! 😬

Your dog will not believe what you say because there is a chance it meant nothing anyway so what’s the point? 🤷‍♀️

How you can clean this up:
⭐️ Be sure your commands are clear! Do you use “down” for laying down but also say “down” when you want your dog off the couch or to stop jumping?!

⭐️ To avoid confusion, have everyone in the house should follow the same rules and same commands for the dog!

⭐️ Knowing exactly what behaviors you want versus don’t want can keep your progress moving!

⭐️ Finally, you have to follow through and hold yourself as well as your dog accountable! If you’re asking for a sit, make it happen! Use the leash to help get your dog into command!

End the guessing games and give your dog direct answers! ❤️

Yelling “oh don’t worry my dogs friendly!!” does not stop the situation!

Your dog is still rushing up to others which isn’t okay if they’re friendly or not, it is just rude and a safety risk!

‼️ The solution is to recall your dog!

➡️ Remember: they shouldn’t be off leash in the first place if they cannot listen!

⭐️ Pro tip: you can use a long leash as you work on recall with your dog to give them a bit more freedom without the risk of them running off!

Be respectful to others around you! Enjoy your adventures with your dog but don’t let them be a menace!

Does your dog zoom out the door and head down the road the moment it’s opened?!

Let’s go over these three steps to stop this scare from happening ⬇️

⭐️ Leash your dog!
Keeping a leash on your dog as they’re hanging out inside will help prevent them slipping by you as you get the door! You’ll have control over the situation rather than hoping your leg blocking skills got it this time! 💃

⭐️Teach your dog to wait at the door!
With the leash on your dog, have them sit as you open the door, reward them for waiting and looking at you, then walk out the door together! This will work on their impulse control and have them look to you for guidance! 👀

⭐️Add in distractions!
In reality, there will be someone at the door! A mailman comes with a package you have to sign for or you’ve got guests coming over! Have a friend come over to practice step two and set your dog up for success! 🐕
