🚨RABIES AWARENESS🚨
As many of you know, there has been a CONFIRMED rabies case in Andalusia involving a dog. The situation is very sad and unfortunate, as well as scary for the owner(s) who were unknowingly exposed. The rabies virus in Alabama has two strains: the raccoon variant and the bat variant. Rabies is fatal once symptoms have started. In Alabama, it is required by law that dogs, cats and ferrets are kept current and up-to-date on their rabies vaccines. If you are unsure if your pet’s rabies vaccination is current, please reach out to us, and we will gladly help! We want to keep our pets and owners safe from a preventable, and deadly, virus! At Covington Veterinary Care, we carry rabies vaccines for dogs, cats, ferrets and horses! Please call us to get your pet vaccinated 🐾
Because rabies vaccination is required by law, we at Covington Veterinary Care will not approve any third party rabies vaccination requests. You must schedule to have your pet vaccinated in-clinic. *Rabies vaccines given by anyone other than a licensed veterinarian in a clinical setting are NOT recognized by the state of Alabama*
🦇 Fun fact: the bite of a bat is unknown (you won’t feel it!) unless someone witnesses the actual bite, and their bites almost always leave very insignificant marks, going undetected 🦇
