I would love to get some feedback and suggestions on how to go about this.
As you all know I have been actively fostering for a local NON-PROFIT cat rescue. Alaska Cat Adoption Team.
Currently, Anchorage Animal Control is turning people/cats away AGAIN, this time because they are over capacity. They have done this for other reasons in the past; such as an outbreak of kennel cough in dogs or Feline Leukemia in cats. All understandable.
Whenever Animal Control turns people/animals away, they hand out a list with phone numbers of local rescues, such as ACAT, telling people, to "try any of these, maybe they can help you".
So, here we are taking in cats/kittens that AACC rejects.
What bugs the heck out of me, is that AACC has informed ACAT that their foster homes need to apply for 'Multi-animal Facility Licenses'.
Because I have cats and dogs on my own and mostly deal with surrendered pregnant mom cats and kittens, I needed a license for 11+ animals (don't judge - lol ) - it cost me $200 and I had a friendly officer inspect my home.
I have a problem with the fact, that a NON-PROFIT rescue, who takes in animals the AACC rejects is subject to paying fees for Multi-animal facility licenses.
In my opinion, this is a pure money-grab, a tax, and ACAT gets (to my knowledge) nothing in return.
I wrote the board a letter, requesting that non-profits be exempt from this tax.
