PPH is built upon the trusted and time-honored tradition of Warriors helping Warriors. The benefits extend well beyond the PPH Veteran trainers.

Non-Profit organization, certified through Assistance Dogs International to train & place Service dogs with Veterans experiencing PTSD, TBI, or Mobility challenges. Paws for Purple Hearts (PPH) is the first program of its kind to offer therapeutic intervention for Veterans and active-duty Service Members by teaching those with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), an

d Military Sexual Trauma (MST) to train service dogs for their comrades with combat-related injuries. Under the guidance of PPH instructors, participants engage with specially-bred Golden and Labrador Retriever puppies. Together they undergo an intensive 18-to-24-month service dog training regimen—learning more than 90 commands–while the Veterans reintegrate into civilian life. The service dogs trained in the PPH program are partnered with Veterans or Service Members with combat-related disabilities at no cost, providing a new steadfast companion and a true partner. PPH dogs provide independence and security as they perform tasks like tugging open doors, switching on and off lights, and picking up dropped items.

💜 Today Zucker visited Barnes and Noble and met with Author Hazel Anthony!

This is Hazel’s first published novel, with the hope of a second one coming this winter!

Our dogs need “field trips” like this, to learn how to walk through stores and behave appropriately while on the leash. Zucker did an amazing job, he’s the best boy!

💜 Our pups want to remind you that this weekend the American Legion Jack Henry Post 1 (840 W. Fireweed Ln.) is finishing up their “Round Up for a Pup” fundraiser!

We very much appreciate the support from this community! We’re honored the American Legion Post 1 would consider running this fundraiser for us, and are grateful we live in this beautiful state with such an amazing group of Veterans-and their supporters!

💜 It’s Thankful Thursday!

We are so thankful for beautiful sunny days which allow us to take our dogs out on “field trips.”🐾

Today Zucker, Vitus, and Brando went to a food truck event where they were challenged with walking in a crowd full people and other dogs, and they did so well!

🐾 Our dogs need to be exposed to multiple situations, to learn how to properly walk on a leash next to their person and not be distracted by other people, dogs, smells, sounds…

💜 We’re always excited to hear how well our dogs are behaving, or get asked if they’re being trained as Service Dogs. We love to tell people who we are and what we do!

🐾 Zucker says THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers who generously donated HonestChew toys!

I don’t think Zucker realizes he has to share-his smile looks like he intends to hoard this lot!

We give our dogs chew toys such as these because they are plant based and safer than bones. They encourage healthy chewing, teeth cleaning, and a whole lot of fun! 💜

💜 Unity, Vitus, Dutch, and Zucker along with their trainers, attended the Alaska Behavioral Health Trauma Conference yesterday at the Dena’ina Center. They demonstrated how a service dog can affect our mental health, leaving a positive impact on our lives. 🐾

Our service dogs in-training learn skills to better assist our veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Mobility Challenges. We’re always excited to show our community who we are and what we do! 💜
