Meet Mr. Potter! 🐻👋

Our newest resident has arrived and is already making us smile as he explores his new home and plays with his new best friend, Mr. Reeves.

Mr. Potter is an American Black Bear who was rescued as a cub by the State of Alaska after his mother passed away. He was then transferred to the Alaska Zoo for care and treatment in the fall of 2025 before arriving in Oshkosh on May 18, 2026.

Today, Mr. Potter and Mr. Reeves were introduced in the exhibit and quickly formed a positive bond. We’re already obsessed with watching these two pals interact!

We’re especially thankful to an anonymous donor for helping bring Mr. Potter to Menominee Park Zoo, and to our community for the continued support that makes things like this possible.

Stop by and welcome Mr. Potter! 🎉

The orphans of the 2026 summer season started arriving recently in May. We currently have one caribou calf and four moose calves, all brought to us by biologists at Alaska Department of Fish and Game - Official 🫎 We remind concerned citizens to report wildlife concerns to agencies as we must receive animals through official channels - see our page with instructions at https://www.alaskazoo.org/report-wildlife-and-bird-concerns
The caribou calf is now in the side pen at the caribou habitat. The four moose calves are in one of the outdoor infirmary yards with indoor access as needed. All are being bottle fed by staff ❤️
Your zoo visits, memberships, adoptions and event tickets are crucial at this time of year to cover the expenses of caring for wildlife in need. If you are looking to participate in other ways, register online for a zoo tour at https://www.alaskazoo.org/summer-feedings-tours or buy our LAST 2 Champions of the Wild Gala tickets at https://champions-2026.auctria.events 📸 Photos from our Animal Care Team

An important message at this time of year!

An important message at this time of year!

Spring is here. It is the time when wildlife species are giving birth to young. The peak of moose calving for much of the state is approximately the week of May 20th.

There are many cow moose with new calves that they will aggressively defend! Don’t become complacent around moose. A protective mother can attack without notice. Give them plenty of space. If you see a cow moose (with or without a calf) don’t go near it. Take another route or a wide detour to safely get around it.
Yelling at moose and trying to intimidate them into moving along may backfire and make them more aggressive.

To report an aggressive moose or other wildlife encounters call your local ADF&G office or report online here:

Check out our Living with Wildlife web pages for lots more information about moose and bear safety.
