We’ve been getting a higher influx of questions about our 'Seniors for Seniors' program, so let’s talk about it!

Alaska PAWS recognizes the challenges senior pets in shelters face, including longer stays and a higher likelihood of difficulty adjusting to shelter life.
We also know the benefits of having a pet, including reduced stress, increased activity and motivation, and lower rates of loneliness. While these benefits may help people over 65, the costs of adoption and pet care may deter many.

That’s where our 'Seniors for Seniors' program comes in. 'Seniors for Seniors' completely waives the adoption fee for people over 65 looking to adopt pets over 7 years old, helping older souls bond while removing financial constraints. Our clinic also offers a senior discount: 10% off all services, making care even more accessible. Have more questions about adopting a senior pet? Meet Panem!

This special lady is the mom to our Hunger Games litter! Panem is an absolute sweetheart, who is finally ready for her own family.

She loves hanging out with staff and enjoying life without all 12 puppies. She will do best in a home that understands her story and that she has so much love to offer. She's so happy that she's figured out how to "smile!"

Meet Paka!

She is about 4 years old and a boxer mix! Paka loves life and everyone she meets. She does well with other dogs, but we don't know how she is around cats.

Paka would do best in an active home. She knows basic commands but would do best will continued training.

Meet C***r. C***r had a tragic journey coming into our shelter. Her loving owner passed away and when C***r was found, being a senior herself, she faced medical challenges as she navigated her new shelter life. Senior pets already have lower adoption rates and longer shelter stays on average; with her medical conditions, we knew her stay would be a longer journey.

With treatment, time, and care, C***r became ready to find her new home. She was adopted and is now a part of her own loving family again. C***r needed a shelter with the patience and determination to help her get back on her feet and back into the world, and we were happy to be that shelter for her.

With support from our community, pets like C***r can receive the care they need on their own timeline. Monetary donations and volunteered time are invaluable for their care. Consider becoming part of stories like C***r's; join our mission to create a safer world for pets, where they get the care they need, no matter the circumstance.

Clinic Closure!

Our Vet Clinic will be CLOSED tomorrow, Saturday, October 31st. We’re working through some scheduling changes and will reopen again for regular hours on Monday!

ADOPTION CENTER CLOSED TODAY, October 30th!

This windstorm has caused a temporary power outage at our adoption center.
All of our animals are safe and cared for. To keep pet safety our top priority, we will be closed for the rest of the day.

Meet Rumi. This sweet girl came to us needing something that isn’t always easy to measure: time. She was fearful and untrusting of anyone who came along. She needed patience, consistency, and the chance to build trust at her own pace. For Rumi, we knew a simple online post with a cute caption and photo wasn’t her path to adoption. She needed long-term support before that was an option.

We kept Rumi in a safe place, dubbing her our resident mouser as our ‘Loft Kitty,’ where she could slowly learn to trust again, and today she is in her very own home again thanks to that time and support.

This is where the ‘Fund-a-Need Friday’ comes in. With your support, we can provide veterinary care, shelter, time, and resources to help our animals heal, build confidence, and find the right homes– making that second chance truly count.
