My quiet time outside with Yuki is precious to me. Yuki encourages me to look, listen, and smell while we stroll along—it is my meditation. She manages to bring me out of my head more than if I were to walk alone. Watching her enjoy outside gives me joy 🥰

How do you feel watching your dog enjoy the curiosities of our world?

Behaviors like trash rummaging and toilet bowl drinking are often done when people are not around. The dog is smart enough to associate the human with a negative outcome when rummaging, but they do not understand that the behavior itself is “bad.” Instead you are making yourself the negative experience (which I can safely bet is not your goal!) By putting a lid on the trash or toilet you are stopping the behavior from even happening! (Behavioral extinction) Follow up by providing an equally or more interesting activity like a Kong filled with frozen goodness, a bully stick, lick mat, or other brain stimulating toys and soon the joy of trash rummaging will fade into the background. 🗑🐶👍🏼🚽
