As benign as it might seem, this fresh forage can cause more harm than good. Here's what to remember.

First one to answer today's question correctly, gets $5 off their next trim.

What is the largest bone in a horses hoof called?

How many other people find this in the mornings when they go check on their horses? :)

Today's question with last weeks prize - grain feeder:

What part of the horses body is used to estimate its age?

Will give the answer and hopefully announce the winner at 8 tonight.

Lisa and I thought it would be fun to play a game for the month of December. Each Sunday we will post a question and who ever post the correct answer first wins a prize, which we will post with the question. Only a couple of rules: Win once, cannot win again. If the prize relates to owning a horse and you don’t have one, please do not guess the answer unless you can use the item. Todays prize is a grain feeder and the question is:

A horse has a wide range of vision. A horse can see completely around its entire body except for three small blind spots, which are?

Just for the fun of it, thought I would list a few Horse facts..

Horses hooves grow approximately 1/4" per month.

A horse can p**p up to 15 times a day- well that explains why barns look and smell like they do!

One front leg is shorter then the other and the mane falls to that side.

Talk about being sleep deprived. Horses only sleep 3-4 hrs in a 24 hr period.

Make sure to plug in those tank heaters tonight and even toss a little grain to those 4 legged family members.

Another year has gone by way to quick. Lisa and I apologize for not taking care or updating our page over the past year, but its been a busy one. Did some snowmobiling in the early part of the year, took a couple of mini vacations over the summer and enjoyed boating as much as we could. We have our soon to be 3 year old granddaughter on the weekends and we are patiently waiting for our 2nd granddaughter to arrive any day now, Lisa not being so patient. :) Our children are doing well for themselves, Camie is living in Waterloo, CJ living in Waverly and recently engaged, Travis is in Monticello, and the youngest, Tyler is thriving in his sports. Wrestling season is going on and his record is 20-1.

On a sad note we had a few fellow horse lovers loose a good friend and family member, their horses. Take a moment and reflect on what makes your horse or horses special to you. For example, my horse, TJ has been with me for over 15 years. In that time we have been thru thick and thin together and we have never given up on each other. We have had plenty of nice trail rides with great friends.

Lisa and I would like to wish each and everyone of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year. You all have enriched our lives in some shape or form an we want to say...THANK YOU! Happy trails into 2012.

Please keep Angie Buchhop Elm in your thoughts, she is a fellow horse lover and lost her beloved horse Duke today; they were partners for over 20 years.

As a New Year starts and an old one ends, I just want you all to know that I truly enjoy working with you and feel honored to be your chosen farrier. Your business is much appreciated and I will do my very best to continue to meet your horses needs. Your continued patronages are a vital part of Gibbs Horseshoeing growth. And for that, Lisa and I are most grateful. Thanks again and Happy 2011.
