🔆 A Very Bittersweet Announcement 🔆

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write.

For almost 7 years, I’ve been so incredibly blessed to have this rescue be a part of my life. What started as a small idea to help a few kittens in need turned into something so much bigger than I ever imagined; a community, a family, and a purpose that shaped nearly every part of who I am.

To the amazing donors who have always jumped in; clearing wishlists, sending donations, or covering vet bills when times were tough, you’ve kept this rescue alive more times than I can count. And to our adopters; the beautiful souls who opened your hearts and homes to our babies, you gave them the happy endings we all work for.

Over the years, we’ve had incredible fosters, pet store partners, and vet clinics who have stood beside us; from squeezing in our sickest babies last minute, to staying up all night to save a fragile newborn. Some of you have become like family, showing up at adoption events, helping behind the scenes, and always cheering us on.

Many of you know, this rescue hasn’t just been my journey… it’s been our journey. My four boys have grown up in the middle of it all, riding shotgun to vet appointments and adoption events whether they wanted to or not. They’ve seen me stay up countless nights fighting for the tiniest lives, and they’ve wiped tears from their face when we lost battles we fought with everything we had. They are truly the backbone of The Never Nix’d Rescue Initiative.

I don’t often share personal things, but this past year has been… hard. Really hard. I went from being a full-time wife and stay-at-home mom to a solo mom, while also facing some serious health struggles that have kept me down more than I’d like to admit.

And last month, tragedy struck our home… something that deeply affected my boys and left us all a broken. Between that, declining donations, my own health, and the financial strain of rescue, from vet bills to the wear and tear and lots of miles on my car, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life.

💔 As much as it breaks my heart to say this, The Never Nix’d Rescue Initiative will be closing its doors as of December 2025. 💔

This rescue has been my heart and soul, my identity. But right now, I have to do what’s best for my boys, for myself, and for the kittens I’ve promised to care for. If I can’t take care of myself, I can’t keep up with the level of care these tiny, fragile lives deserve.

That said, I’m not disappearing completely. I plan to keep our nonprofit status active to continue offering low-cost vaccine/microchip clinics and preventative care, because those services are vital to rescue work. And I’ll still be here to offer support, guidance, bottle-feeding training, anything I can from the sidelines.

This post will serve as our final fundraiser.
Every dollar raised will go toward closing out our remaining vet balances, CareCredit debt, and the final care for the last group of kittens in our rescue. Some of our babies will be heading to Lighthouse Veterinary Clinic this week for their final vetting, and a few more will be tested and transferred to other partner rescues who can take over their care.

I know this news may come as a shock, and trust me.. it’s been breaking my heart for months. Rescuing has been my entire world. But sometimes, loving something means knowing when to step back and trust that you’ve done all you can.

This girl cracks me up! 😹

Elsa is one of our special girls… she’s deaf, which means she’s got so much love to give… but sometimes doesn’t even realize you exist!

Last night I snuck into the kitten room, refreshed food and water, cleaned up, and was on my way out before she even woke up! Still snoozing away, completely undisturbed like the little princess she is!

Elsa (and a few of her friends!) will be heading to the vet next week for their final vetting, and then they’ll officially be on the market for forever homes! 🏡♥️

These four sweet babies will be our last intakes for a while. 💔

I’ve posted before about a house on my road that’s completely overrun with cats and sadly, countless kittens who seem to “disappear” before they ever make it past kittenhood.

I’ve TNR’d as many of the adults as I can, but there are easily still double-digits of cats there. Several of our past kittens have come from this same location, most of them sick, starving, and loaded with parasites.

One night on my way home, I spotted a small group of kittens. I stopped to check on them, and while most ran off, two little babies ran straight to me. The moment I saw their eyes, I knew I couldn’t just leave them there.

The next night, I went back hoping to find their siblings. I didn’t find the same group, but instead came across two slightly older kittens who came running because they were starving and thankfully, I had the GOOD STUFF (Royal Canin kitten wet food you all so kindly donated!). Of course, these two were even sicker, with their eyes in awful shape.

Right now, I’m covering supplies the best I can, but funds are basically nonexistent and I truly did not expect to take in any more babies. But sometimes, when you see those little faces, you just can’t walk away.
