Knight's Golden Retrievers

Knight's Golden Retrievers As a family-owned business, we are dedicated to raising healthy and happy Golden Retrievers.

We prioritize quality over quantity, producing only a limited number of litters each year to ensure that each puppy receives our full attention and care. I've been a Golden Retriever breeder for over 10 years, and it's been a true labor of love. I dedicate my life to my family and my dogs, ensuring every puppy is raised with constant love and attention in our home.

How Old Is Your Dog in Human Years?

The old "multiply by 7" rule is wrong. Dog aging is
not linear — it accelerates dramatically in early life
and slows down in the senior years. Here is what the
science actually shows for a medium to large breed dog.

2 MONTHS = 12–14 Human Months
A 2-month-old puppy is developmentally equivalent to
a human infant — sensory systems active, learning
rapidly, entirely dependent. The fastest developmental
period in the entire lifespan.

6 MONTHS = 7–8 Human Years
A 6-month-old dog has already passed through the
equivalent of a human's first 7–8 years. Instincts
are forming, social hierarchies are being tested,
and behavior patterns are establishing.

1 YEAR = 15–18 Human Years
A 1-year-old dog is in full adolescence. Hormonally
active, testing boundaries, physically capable but
not yet fully mature. The training window is critical
at this stage.

3 YEARS = 28–30 Human Years
A 3-year-old dog has crossed into full adulthood.
Behavior has settled, social bonds are established,
and temperament is largely fixed. Prime physical
condition.

5 YEARS = 35–38 Human Years
Mid-30s in human terms — confident, experienced,
settled. The sweet spot many dog owners describe as
their dog's best years.

7 YEARS = 44–48 Human Years
This is the threshold most veterinarians consider the
start of the senior phase for medium and large breeds.
Routine wellness exams become more important from
this point. Energy begins to moderate.

10 YEARS = 60–65 Human Years
A 10-year-old dog is the equivalent of a person in
their early 60s. Joint health, dental health, and
organ function deserve closer attention. Quality of
life management becomes part of daily care.

12 YEARS = 70–75 Human Years
Senior in every sense. Sleep increases, activity
decreases, comfort becomes the priority. A dog at
12 has given most of its lifespan to its family.

14 YEARS = 78–82 Human Years
A 14-year-old dog is genuinely elderly — the
equivalent of a person in their late 70s to early 80s.
Each year beyond this is a gift.

Note: These equivalencies apply primarily to
medium to large breeds. Small breeds age more
slowly and often live significantly longer.

Why Teaching Recall Could Save Your Dog’s Life 🐾

Recall isn’t just a “nice trick” — it’s one of the most important commands your dog will ever learn.

When your dog comes when called, you’re not just showing off good training… you’re keeping them safe.

✨ Here’s why recall matters:

🐕 Safety First
Whether it’s a busy road, wildlife, or another dog, a solid recall can stop a dangerous situation in seconds.

🌳 Freedom to Explore
Dogs with reliable recall get more freedom — off-leash hikes, playtime, and adventures without constant worry.

❤️ Stronger Bond
Every successful recall builds trust between you and your dog. They learn that coming back to you is always a good thing.

🎯 Better Behavior Overall
Recall training improves focus and responsiveness, which carries over into all areas of training.

🚫 Prevents Bad Habits
Chasing, running off, ignoring commands — all of these can be managed with a dependable recall.

Pro Tip:
Start small, make it rewarding, and NEVER punish your dog for coming back — even if they took their sweet time getting there 😉

At the end of the day, recall isn’t about control… it’s about communication, trust, and keeping your dog safe.

🐾 A dog that comes when called is a dog that gets to enjoy life to the fullest.

🌼 Seasonal Allergies in Dogs: What Every Pet Parent Should Know 🐾

Just like people, dogs can suffer from seasonal allergies, especially during the spring, summer, and fall when pollen, grasses, weeds, and mold spores are high. If your dog has been extra itchy lately, allergies might be the reason!

Common Signs of Seasonal Allergies in Dogs:
• Excessive scratching or chewing
• Licking paws constantly
• Red or irritated skin
• Ear infections or head shaking
• Watery eyes or runny nose
• Hair loss or hot spots

Dogs often show allergies through their skin, unlike humans who sneeze more. You may notice them chewing their feet or rubbing their face on the carpet or furniture.

Ways to Help Your Dog During Allergy Season:

🐾 Wipe paws and coat after being outside – This removes pollen and allergens from their fur.

🛁 Regular baths – A gentle oatmeal or hypoallergenic dog shampoo can soothe itchy skin and wash away allergens.

🌿 Keep bedding clean – Wash dog beds and blankets frequently to remove pollen and dust.

💧 Support skin health – Omega-3 supplements and a high-quality diet can help strengthen your dog’s skin barrier.

🏡 Limit exposure during peak pollen times – Early morning and windy days often have the highest pollen levels.

👩‍⚕️ Talk to your vet – If symptoms are severe, your vet may recommend allergy medications, medicated shampoos, or antihistamines.

Seasonal allergies can be frustrating for both dogs and their owners, but with the right care and management, your pup can stay comfortable, healthy, and happy all year long.

After all, our dogs deserve to enjoy every season just as much as we do! 🐶🍂🌸

Ever catch your dog trying to eat rocks, socks, dirt, or toys? 😬 That behavior may be pica—a condition where dogs crave and consume non-food items.

🐶 Why does pica happen?
• Boredom or anxiety
• Nutritional deficiencies
• Stress or lack of mental stimulation
• Underlying medical issues

⚠️ Why it matters:
Pica can lead to choking, intestinal blockages, broken teeth, and emergency vet visits—so it’s not just a “quirky habit.”

💡 What helps:
✔️ Plenty of exercise & mental enrichment
✔️ Puzzle toys and safe chew options
✔️ Consistent routines
✔️ A vet visit to rule out medical or dietary causes

If your pup is constantly eating things they shouldn’t, trust your instincts and talk with your vet. Early intervention can make a big difference in keeping your dog safe and healthy. ❤️🐕

🌸 First Heat Cycle in Female Puppies: What to Expect & How to Prepare 🌸

If your girl is heading into her first heat cycle, don’t panic — it’s totally normal! Here’s a simple guide to help you know what’s coming and how to keep her comfortable and safe. 🐶💕

🗓️ When does the first heat happen?

Most females have their first heat around 6–12 months (sometimes earlier or later depending on breed).

👀 Signs your puppy is in heat

You may notice:
• Swollen v***a
• Light bleeding or spotting
• More licking/cleaning
• Extra clingy or extra moody
• Increased interest from male dogs (even from far away!)
• Restlessness / wanting to roam

⏳ How long does it last?

Heat cycles usually last 2–4 weeks.
Even if bleeding stops, she can still be fertile for a period after.

✅ What to do (the important stuff!)

🐾 Supervise ALL potty breaks — stay on leash, even in a fenced yard
🚫 No dog parks / daycare / playdates with male dogs
🏡 Keep doors and gates secure (girls may try to slip out, and males may try to get in!)
👕 Consider doggy heat panties indoors (change often to keep her clean)
🧼 Keep her bedding clean and offer extra comfort/rest
🧠 Give mental enrichment (snuffle mats, chews, short training sessions) to help with restlessness

🩺 Vet tip

If you plan to spay, ask your vet about timing — recommendations vary by breed, size, and health.

💗 Bottom line: Heat cycles are normal, but safety is the #1 priority. If you have questions or notice anything unusual (heavy bleeding, strong odor, lethargy, fever), call your vet.
