I know most of you saw my tariff post. Hopefully, this 30-day reprieve lasts longer than that, but regardless, something we need to address is the cost of shipping.
I am aware there are huge objections to our shipping charges. I realize that the Amazon culture means that people think we should offer "free" shipping. But, please understand shipping is NEVER "free." Shipping is ALWAYS paid by the consumer- but some companies hide it in the product cost, typically accomplishing this by selling you inferior quality products with the full cost of shipping built in.
We are manufacturing and shipping a heavy product. There is no way around shipping charges. I could do what the others do and sell you a cheap product, add the cost of shipping to the price and then announce "FREE SHIPPING" on the website, but that's not honest.
In keeping with total honesty going forward, although we are going to need to alter some price points, we have decided we will not change how we present shipping just to leave you wondering how much is food and how much is shipping. You are still going to see your shipping charges separate from your purchase amount. At the end of the day, I am just too stubborn to give into that pressure and I think most of you are too smart to believe I'm really shipping you anything "free," anyway.
But, I still want to show you what we're up against in the freight department. In my usual (often unwelcome) show of complete transparency, here is a recent page of an invoice from our warehouse. ‼️These are the actual charges we pay FedEx with a tier 1 discount.‼️
Please look at these actual freight charges then remember we have fulfillment, boxes and storage fees on top of those. Nobody has been charged the full shipping amount since we began. There are many entries with $35 in freight, even though we only charge that area $21.99.
Unfortunately, with ingredients continually increasing and refusing to change our formula like most have done, we no longer have the margins to eat those extra freight dollars.
In the coming weeks, we are going to go through and fine-tune some of our shipping rates by state and in some instances, ZIP code to try to make it more fair. It's pretty obvious from these numbers who is in FedEx territory and who is in SpeeDee zone. These are all with a FedEx tier 1 discount- this isn't something that can be reduced. If you took a bag of food to UPS or FedEx as a walk-in and tried to send it, you'll see what I mean.
