Cherry has been an absolute GAME CHANGER for our clients!

We have had 380 transactions through Cherry since June 2025 when we began working with them. That means they have helped pet owners by providing a payment plan 380 times, allowing pets to receive the care they needed but otherwise may not have been able to have.

Cherry is a loan based service that pet owners can apply for when they need help with veterinary costs. They have multiple plan options, some of which offer 0% interest!

They are known for their ability to provide financial aid to people of all credit status. They also have a pay-in-four option (like Klarna) that clients can use for wellness visits and preventative care.

If you have any questions about using Cherry to receive veterinary care with us, please give us a call at 806-353-5566!

❄️ The "Snow Protester":

We’ve all seen the videos: a backyard covered in a foot of snow, an owner pleading at the back door, and a dog—perfectly content—refusing to budge.

For many owners of northern breeds (like Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds, or Newfoundlands), the struggle is real! While we might be freezing, some dogs are truly built for this weather.

Tips for your Outdoor Enthusiast:
Even if your dog is a "snow-worshipper," it’s important to keep these safety measures in mind:

Fresh Water is a Must: Ensure their outdoor water bowl hasn't frozen over. Hydration is just as important in the winter as it is in the summer.

Check the Paws: Even if they aren't cold, ice balls can form between their toes and cause discomfort or skin irritation.

The "Shiver" Test: If you see any shivering, lifting of paws repeatedly, or if they seem unusually lethargic, it’s time to insist on coming in.

Provide a Shelter: If they are going to stay out for long periods, they should have access to a dry, wind-blocked shelter with straw or blankets.

When should they definitely come in?
Even the toughest "snow dog" has limits. When temperatures hit extreme lows or the wind chill becomes dangerous, even a double coat isn't enough to prevent frostbite on ears, tails, and paws.

Brrr! The temperatures are going to drop for the next few days. Here are some cold weather safety tips for your furry friends 🐾

1. Protect Those Paws
Ice, snow, and salt can be harsh on sensitive paw pads.

Wipe them down: Always wipe your pet's paws after a walk to remove salt and de-icing chemicals, which can be toxic if licked.

Check for cracks: Keep an eye out for redness or cracking between the toes.

Consider booties: If your dog will tolerate them, booties are the best defense!

🧪 2. Antifreeze is Deadly
Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) has a sweet taste that pets find attractive, but even a tiny amount can be fatal. Clean up any garage spills immediately and consider using pet-safe antifreeze products.

🧥 3. Dress for the Weather
If it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for them!

Limit time outdoors: Keep walks shorter when the wind chill hits.

Sweater weather: Short-haired dogs or seniors may need a coat or sweater to help maintain body heat.

🏠 4. Provide a Warm Sanctuary
Ensure your pet has a warm, dry place to sleep away from drafts. For older pets, the cold can make arthritis more painful—consider a heated pet bed or extra padding to keep their joints comfortable.

🔥 5. Fireplace & Heater Safety
Pets love to snuggle up to heat sources, but they can easily get singed or knock over space heaters. Always supervise your pets around open flames or portable heaters.

Patient Spotlight:

Meet Tortellini. Tortellini has Pectus Excavatum, which means that her sternum curls into her chest and risks damage to her heart. She has no idea that anything is wrong with her and has maintained identifying as a ball of energy throughout her extensive stay with us. She is feisty and adorable and gives the biggest purrs possible. She is up for adoption, but her condition may cause problems for her later in life.
