We’ve teamed up with Rockin' Amarillo for Father’s Day weekend, and we are so excited!

Their incredibly talented team has created and hidden beautifully painted rocks all throughout the zoo for our visitors to discover. From Father's Day-themed designs to adorable animals and inspiring messages, each rock is a little work of art.

If you find one, you have two choices:
🪨 Keep it as a special souvenir, OR
📸 Snap a photo and re-hide it somewhere else in the zoo for another visitor to enjoy finding.

All rocks have been hidden in visitor-accessible areas throughout the zoo. Please note that no rocks have been placed inside animal exhibits.

A huge thank you to Rockin’ Amarillo for sharing their creativity and helping make this Father’s Day weekend even more fun for our guests!

A huge THANK YOU to the West Plains Lions Club for coming out and volunteering with us for a second time!

They tackled some of the toughest projects on the property without hesitation. From cleaning tortoise p**p, to power washing the bear ponds so we can begin sealing them, to spraying out the camel barn and cleaning around the hay storage areas, they jumped right in and got the job done.

It takes a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes to keep the Amarillo Zoo and Sanctuary looking its best and providing excellent care for the animals, and volunteers like these make a huge
difference.

To show our appreciation, we invited them to spend some time with a few of our special animal ambassadors and even help feed them. It was a small way for us to say thank you for all of their hard work and dedication.

We are incredibly grateful for community partners like the West Plains Lion Club. Thank you for helping us make a difference for the animals every day!

We are incredibly proud of Tucker Imel and Troop 87 for completing an amazing Eagle Scout Project at Amarillo Zoo and Sanctuary!

In a BIG way, Tucker, 38 scouts, parents, and volunteers came together and contributed an incredible 180 man-hours to improve our bear habitat. Their hard work resulted in a brand-new bridge being built in the upper bear pond, along with the removal of four truckloads of debris from the area.

We can't wait to see our bears enjoying their new addition! The bridge will not only provide enrichment opportunities for the bears, but it will also help our team safely skim the pond each morning to remove debris and keep the habitat looking its best.
It was inspiring to see so many people working together toward a common goal. Projects like this remind us that caring for animals and improving their homes truly takes a village.

Thank you, Tucker, Troop 87, and all the parents and volunteers who donated their time, energy, and hard work. Your impact will be felt for years to come, and we are incredibly grateful!

🎉 We had our very first birthday party at Amarillo Zoo and Sanctuary today, and it was a HUGE hit!

Did you know that we are now offering birthday parties at the zoo?

Our outdoor birthday party package is just $250 and includes:
✅ Admission for up to 20 kids and adults (ages 2 and up) $5 extra per kid/adult
✅ A private, sectioned-off party area
✅ Two full hours of party time
✅ Two animal encounters
✅ The last 30 minutes reserved exclusively for your animal encounters

You are welcome to bring your own food, birthday cake, and non-alcoholic beverages. We simply ask that everyone be good stewards of the grounds and clean up after themselves when the party is over.

We are also excited to share that we have plans to offer indoor birthday parties in the future! Before that can happen, some renovations are needed so we can host parties without closing off the entire Education Building. Stay tuned for updates!

🐻 Bear Exhibit Update! 🐻

The bears will be off exhibit this weekend as our team continues working hard on improvements to their habitat!

We're excited to share that the top pond is finally holding water, and the pump is now up and running. This has been a big project, and we're thrilled with the progress.

In addition, a local Scout is completing his Eagle Scout project this weekend. He and his troop will be building a dock in the top pond that will serve two important purposes: providing a comfortable place for the bears to relax and enjoy the water, and giving our team easier access to skim debris from the pond and keep it clean.

We can't wait to show you the before-and-after photos once everything is complete! Stay tuned!

Moat Maintenance Monday

Starting today, every Monday morning will be Moat Maintenance Monday here at the zoo!

To give our team time to properly care for the moat, the monkeys will stay inside for a few extra hours each Monday morning while we clean and maintain the waterway.

Thanks to the generous donations of skimmers, a UV sterilizer, and our new sand filter, we've made tremendous progress in improving water quality. These upgrades have made a huge difference, but the moat is an ecosystem all its own and requires constant attention to keep it healthy and prevent it from turning into a swamp again.

The moat is one of the centerpieces of our zoo. We want it looking its best not only for the animals that call it home, but also for the tens of thousands of visitors who come to enjoy the zoo each year.

We wanted to share this one last time before the event!

This fundraising event helps provide critical support for Bridging the Gaps, an organization dedicated to helping people transition off the streets, secure employment, and re-enter the workforce with dignity and purpose.

We've been blessed to witness the impact of their work firsthand through Jones Customs & Trees, whose team members came out to help with our trees. Several members of their crew have been given opportunities through this organization, and their hard work and dedication speak volumes.

Everyone deserves to feel needed, valued, and to have a sense of purpose. By supporting this event, you're helping create opportunities that change lives and strengthen our community.

Zoo Reopening at 2:30 p.m.

Please keep in mind that there is still the potential for additional rain and storms to move through the area. Some parts of the zoo are beginning to accumulate standing water, and our team is working hard to disperse it and prevent large puddles from forming throughout the grounds.

For the safety of our animals, the lions, jaguar, and bears will remain off exhibit for the rest of the day due to the possibility of lightning. Whenever lightning is in the area, these animals must be secured indoors, and it can be challenging to move them safely if conditions change quickly. All other animals will have access to both their indoor and outdoor habitats as weather conditions allow.

If you're planning a visit, be prepared for a rainy day at the zoo and watch your step in wet areas. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we look forward to seeing you this afternoon!

Fresh round bales have arrived at Hoofstock!

The bison spent a solid five minutes trying to decide whether the new bale was lunch... or this season’s hottest fashion accessory. 🤔😂

In the end, we’re still not entirely sure what they decided. One thing’s for certain—they’re pretty excited about the delivery!
