Update on orphan filly. We could not find a nurse mare so have been feeding her a milk replacer produced by Cargill. All staff and many volunteers are coming by to feed her every 2 hours. She can drink as much as she wants at each feeding and now is up to three baby bottles each session. She shares the stall with a goat and they are friends, but the filly is the boss. We are now working on putting a bucket with a ni**le on it so she can eat whenever she is hungry. Thank you all for your help in trying to find a nurse mare for her. I will try to attach some photos of her and her best friend to this post.

Brigadoon Performance Horses is looking for horse lovers that would like to earn reining lessons by doing part time barn help. The helper will be asked to do such tasks such as cleaning stalls, maintaining arenas and fence lines, cleaning saddles and tack, cleaning the horse’s water, etc. The job is flexible and the helper designates which hours and days they would like to work on a week-to-week basis. There is room for advancement in the future. For the right person, this could turn into a permanent position. The good news is that after working for 10 hours, the helper earns a reining lesson (worth $50 a lesson); the bad news is that we pay minimum wage, i.e. $7.25 an hour. Need to be over 18 and have own transportation. References are required as our facility works with special needs students and we need to make sure that all help has appropriate backgrounds. We are very careful that all our help meets certain guidelines.

Most of the horses we are selling have been born here on the farm
Brigadoon Performance Horses is a fully-equipped, equine facility nestled on 40 acres in Alvin, Texas. Our acreage includes a covered arena, a covered round pen, a 60 ft round pen, a 150 ft round pen, an outside reining track and acres of trail riding. We are conveniently located 2 miles from Friendswood city limits, 5 miles from Pearland city limits, 27 miles from the Medical Center in downtown Houston and 34 miles from UTMB Galveston.
Most of the horses we are training and selling have been born here on the farm, as have their mothers, and grand mothers. The majority of our performance horses are by multi million dollar sires who have won the NRHA Futurity, won the NRBC Derby, or won Gold Medals in World Equestrian Games. The list of theses sires includes cutting and reining bred stallions such as
-Wimpys Little Step,
-Von Reminic,
-Nic It In the Bud,
-Gallo Del Cielo (Rooster),
-Yellow Jersey,
-Mr Melody Jac,
-SR Frozen Enterprise.
Recently we have bred mares to what we consider to be “young and upcoming” sires. All these young sires have proven NRHA show records, and have no foals of performing age. In all cases the resulting babies are NRHA Sire & Dam foals. This means that the foals are already enrolled in the NRHA Futurity & Derby program. These sires include:
-Steppin On Sparks (won over $107,000 NRHA) , by Jacs Electric Spark out of Mahoganys First Step by Wimpys Little Step
-Guns R For Shootin (won over $114,000 NRHA) by NRHA $10 Million Sire Gunner out of the great producing mare Chelsea Lena
-Wrangling in Chex ( won over $73,000 NRHA). by Starlights Wrangler out of a daughter of Hollywood Dun It
Our horses are trained through the use of non intimidating strategies. There is an emphasis on techniques used and/or developed by trainers such as Craig Johnson,John Lyons, and the Dorrance brothers.
One of our horses that was born and raised on the farm qualified for the FEI Reining World Championship at the CRI3 trials held during the 2016 NRBC. He and the other 3 members of the team were chosen to represent the US in Switzerland in August of 2016. Due to soundness problems, we had to withdraw him from the competition.
In addition to reining, we also are training our horses to compete in Ranch Horse Versatility classes. As much as we like reining horses, we have found that horses are much happier when they have a job that makes sense to them. They get better as reining horses when that is just one part of their job description.
