Aspen Ironworks

Aspen Ironworks “He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. Francis of Assisi

He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
― St. Aspen Ironworks is a family-run small business based in East Texas. Milton Wagner has over 30 years worth of experience crafting recycled iron and other metals into unique works of art. Using the knowledge passed down through three generations of ironcrafters, he produces his eco-chic metal designs with passion and flair.

He lives with his lovely wife and muse, Judy near Alto, TX. The last of the true cowboys, Milton enjoys spending time in Colorado on his son's sustainable cattle ranch, riding horses, fishing all over Texas and being "Papa" to his five grandkids.

Hey it's Alto!

Men outside the Dickey and Patton blacksmith shop in Alto, Texas, circa 1910. Hard work! There's not an ounce of fat on any of these men. Alto is a small town in Cherokee County. It's about 25 miles west of Nacogdoches. Also, it strikes me that suspenders are a mighty underappreciated part of a man's wardrobe. 😀

"Don't cry for the horses that life has set free.
A million white horses, forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses now in God's hands.
As they dance and prance to a heavenly band.
They were ours as a gift, but never to keep
As they close their eyes, forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound, forever to fly.
A million white horses, against the blue sky.
Look up into Heaven. You will see them above.
The horse we lost, the horse we loved.
Manes and tails flying, they gallop through time.
They were never yours, they were never mine.
Don't cry for the horses, they will be back someday.
When our time has come, they will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses, love the ones that are here."
