🚨 NEW RESCUE- Heidi 🚨
Meet baby Heidi!!
Heidi is a truck jumper who was found on the shoulder of a highway in Southern Illinois in the middle of June by a couple who immediately scooped her up.
For those of you who are new to pig rescue, a truck jumper is a piglet who falls or jumps out of a large truck that is transporting young pigs to a "finishing facility" where the pigs grow for 6 months before they are slaughtered and processed for meat.
We are so thankful that Heidi was able to get herself out of that truck.. and at the same time, our hearts are so heavy for the rest of the pigs, just like Heidi, who weren't able to make it out.
The couple who found Heidi reached out to their vet, Dr. Shawna Gerner. She immediately took Heidi in and reached out to us. While we made arrangements for Heidi, Dr. Gerner fostered Heidi. They quickly formed a close bond with one another, one that we know will last a lifetime.
In mid-July, Dr. Gerner took Heidi to the University of Illinois, where she was spayed, vaccinated, and issued a CVI (which is needed for transport across statelines).
Our wonderful volunteer, Rochelle, picked Heidi up from the vet and took her to our amazing foster partner, Sarah. Sarah and her family fostered Heidi while she healed from surgery and continued to grow.
Then, this morning, our board member Maureen drove Heidi to Nebraska to meet Kelly of Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary halfway. Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary is based in Colorado!
Heidi will officially become a resident of Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary TODAY! (Look at the picture of the barn stall that Luvin Arms made for Heidi 🥹🥹)
So far, in her short life, Heidi already has so many beautiful people standing behind her. SO many people have played a crucial role in Heidi's journey to freedom! It really does take a village.. it takes a COMMUNITY coming together to make these rescues happen! We appreciate everyone who came together to make this rescue happen!
And of course, a HUGE thank you to Kelly and everyone else at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary for giving Heidi the best home a girl could ask for. We’re so excited to see her continue to grow and flourish! ❤️❤️
