Last week, we had the tremendous honor of being invited to the studio to record a segment for WBEZ's Curious City!!


April has always loved NPR & WBEZ, so this was such an exciting and surreal experience!
She got to talk all about CPR and the early days of rescuing pigs.

The producers even gave Ramona a special invitation to help fill the segment with little pig noises!
(mostly noises of Ramona eating snacks 😂🥰)

A huge thank you to Erin Allen and Justin Bull for making this piece happen! They were so beautifully respectful about the topic of rescuing pigs and very mindful of using the right language when discussing animals.
They were also very diligent in getting the facts and presenting them in an engaging and thoughtful way.

This experience was absolutely incredible ❤️

Sweet Duncan went to the vet for his Mycoplasma recheck today!
Everybody, please cross your fingers that he is negative! 🤞🤞
We will have the results by next week!

A huge thank you to Maureen & Katie for taking Duncan to his appointment today.
It was a full 5 hour trip, complete with Duncan's very first pup cup! 💕

Sweet Duncan is having a blast outside in this gorgeous weather today 🌞

Duncan goes in for his Mycoplasma recheck this Thursday. Everybody, please cross your fingers and toes that he is negative! 🤞🤞

The sweetest boy in the whole world is home!!

Leo made it through sedation really well! He was able to get his teeth cleaned, and some foreign material was removed from his mouth. He then received antibiotics.

He also had his ears fully cleaned out and received long-lasting ear medication for a bad double ear infection.

We are so relieved to have our boy back home and to know that he must be feeling a whole lot better! ❤️

🚨 Our sweet, shy Leo had to be brought in to University of Illinois Large Animal Vet today for an assessment.

We noticed a bad smell coming from Leo's mouth a couple of weeks ago and started monitoring the situation...
Unfortunately, the smell did not go away, and we started really worrying about his dental health and made him a vet appointment.

After today's dental exam, it was determined that he definitely needs a teeth cleaning and a possible tooth removal.

Teeth cleanings have to be done under sedation on pigs, so this will happen on Wednesday! While under sedation, we are also having his hooves trimmed and his ears cleaned and treated for an infection that was found today.

The estimate we received is between $500 to $700 for Wednesday's work!
If you are able to spare a few dollars to help us with this vet bill, we would REALLY appreciate it!! 🙏🙏

For new followers-
Leo was CPR's 100th rescued pig!
He was found by animal control in an alley on the south side of Chicago.
He has a massive dent in his skull, which we believe is from past abuse before he was rescued.
He is such a shy, scared guy that he is now a permanent CPR resident. He is part of April's herd, where we make special accommodations for him.
He is the most sensitive little pig we have ever met, and we love him so, so much!

Today, 2 of our AMAZING volunteers, Tyler and Goose, went to Nova Pines Sanctuary to put up new fencing for their large breed pasture.

Despite a bad rainstorm, we were about to restore their fencing, so everyone is safe and sound!

We are very passionate about giving back to sanctuaries who have taken pigs from us!
Nova Pines Sanctuary had several CPR alumni, including 2 large breed pigs named Rootie and Cashew!!
