Rockin’ M Ranch and Horseback Rides near Alpine, Wyoming are off to a great start this season. Connor guided Allie to this over 20” Brown Trout at the fish camp today. Overcast skies wake up the big fish! This is a 4 hour family horseback/fly fishing excursion that we ride the horses out to our day camp on the banks of the Salt River. In addition to the fishing, the guide also cooks our guests a barbecue cheeseburger lunch. Due to the low snow run-off we were able to get an early start this season, about a month earlier than usual. We have already done a few this week and the fishing has been great. We are also offering daily horseback rides. We are very excited that all 4 horseback guides Lexie, Connor, Lachlan, and Ethan are back for another season! To book 307-654-2288.

We had a friendly Bull Elk hanging out about 15 yards behind the house tonight. He hung with the horses for about 30 minutes, sampled their hay and was licking their salt block in this video. The wildlife looks healthy and plentiful this year!

The warmer than normal spring has made for incredible wildflower blooms. The river is dropping fast. We hope to be crossing the river on our horseback rides by the end of the week. To book a ride please call 307-654-2288.

We are off to a great start this summer. We have a great crew of guides, some new trails, and the horses have been awesome. We plan to make some more videos throughout the summer. I came out to this scene one calm morning this spring. I counted at least 19 horses laying down while two in the middle stand keeping watch over the herd. Not a common occurance with horses.

The 2023 Salt River fly fishing season had a rough start. We experienced a huge winter which led to much higher than average stream flows, followed by a landslide up swift creek which kept the rivers off color until late July. Eventually the fishing picked up for the last half of the season. Big water typically results in a large amount of biomass in the river which leads to larger fish when things clear. We are looking forward to a great 2024 season. Here are a few fish pictures from July-October of 2023. Guides, Darrin, Blake, and myself.
