This is a new resident at Alcona Humane Society named Buster. He is a senior gentleman at 12-ish years old. We got to spend some time with him today as he got a new look! He is a super friendly guy that doesn't bat an eye at strangers and is a fabulous walker! We had a ton of fun running around the big yard and hope he finds his forever couch soon! I'm still here waiting for a forever family but Auntie is keeping me busy! Agility class is super fun and I'm pretty good at it if I do say so myself!

This is in Alpena folks, so please be cautious. ALWAYS keep your dog home if there are any signs of coughing, sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy until a vet gives you a safe return date. We are closed until Tuesday as we are still on vacation but wanted to remind everyone to be cautious when taking your dog to public places with other dogs where there is no vaccine check!

Hi guys! 👋 Auntie said I was a ROCK STAR in agility class last night. Thanks, Aunt Susie, for letting me play! I didn't like being in the big yard as usual, but I was so confident while running the course. I'm going to keep going to agility class while I'm waiting to find my forever humans.

I like other friendly dogs and I love walks in the woods. Big open spaces kinda make me anxious but I'm working on that. It doesn't take much to keep me happy. A cozy blanket and someone to sit next to... I am young so I do like to play fetch and have the occasional zoomies. I LOVE my herding Jolly Egg. Anyways, I've got things to chew on and stuff to sniff, so gotta go!

I like big toys and I cannot lie!

Hi guys! Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend! I've been making new dog friends and learning new games that I like to play with them since class ended. I am going to run the agility course next week and see if I'm an athlete 😎 its going to be a hot one today so keep cool out there!

Well guys, tomorrow is graduation day for doggie class! It's funny how during the first class all my classmates were all over the place but now we are all on track to focus and pay attention to our owners. I now know how to sit, lay down, place, and shake. On Wednesday Aunt Susie and Aunt Erica helped me learn how to walk the bridge, dog-walk, and get on the paws table! I also love to play fetch, as well as the occasional puppy zoomies. I've come a long way in 6 weeks but still have a whole lifetime of stuff to learn! That's the thing about dog training, you're never really "done". There's always more things to learn and excel at. I'm hoping to find my forever humans soon to help me continue my journey. I'll let you all know when the next dog class begins, probably sometime in August. Congratulations to all my friends in class!

My name is Erica and I have been training, grooming, babysitting, and rehabilitating dogs for 15 years. I began working and learning at this kennel when I was twelve years old under Janet Olson (a very knowledgeable, titled instructor and groomer). I moved on to college, worked at shelters and for veterinarians, and even had a really great desk job at one point! However, my heart always called me back to the Canine Care kennel -- the kennel that feels like home--where every dog is a part of my family. Janet has given me the amazing opportunity to take over for her and I am honored to give all the dogs in Northern Michigan the absolute best care. I am Pet CPR certified and frequently seek continuing education in my field. Our kennel is double fenced and attended 24 hours a day. The safety, health, and happiness of your pet is my number one priority.
