Cinder Trails Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats

It’s been a couple weeks since I last posted, we’ve been busy preparing for and attending Armada Fair along with just over all busy life happening.

Other than this the girls did decently at the show today- not as well as last year but we come for the fun and experiences not the ribbons! Classes were pretty decent sized this year and everyone who placed was well deserving.

🌺 Rock-N-Ridge Damali- did not place in her class BUT took 5th in Best Udder, 5th place Dam & Daughter, and 5th place produce of dam.

💐Craftmade HR Voodoo Princess 7*M (pictured) - did not place in her class, she had filled a beautiful udder the last day or so but this morning we came in around 7AM and she looked like she’d been milked out which we did not do. This could be something to do with her or it could be foul play, we don’t know but we are going to talk to the staff about it to make 100% certain goats were not sabotaged. We do feel a little cheated on this but such is life I guess.

🌼Craftmade HR Irish Runda-Linn 2*M- did not place, although I felt like she deserved a little more attention and maybe someone better showing her- either way she did her best and looked good anyways!

🐦‍🔥 Craftmade G Sparro’s Phoenix- Placed 3rd place 3yr old, she was another doe I was concerned about foul play with but she still came in with so much strength and confidence that the only reason she didn’t place higher was because she was a little in at the hocks. Phoenix is a phenomenal doe and I am excited to see what her daughters do!

🤝CinderTrails Justa Simple Deal- did not place in her class but I’m still proud of her anyways! She was with Damali and placed 5th in Dam and Daughter as well as 5th in Produce of dam

🥞CinderTrails Up 4 Pancakes- did not place and I’m mildly mad at her for her behavior lol

💃CinderTrails G Gitanna- took 2nd place Senior Doe Kid and 5th in Produce of Dam with Damali and Dealia. I am very proud of this little lady, I know she is very special and has a lot of potential! If she had been just a bit more mature and meatier she would have placed higher but that’s ok. I’m proud of her no matter what!

🖐️CinderTrails TW Glove Me Up- Took 3rd place Senior Doe Kid! She is a very powerful doe kid and I’m proud of her too!

⭐️ CinderTrails TW Ethereal Star- Took 4th place Senior Doe Kid, Esther is one who needs more meat on her bones too. She was a good girl and shows a lot of promise!

My Angora Doe mavis and her Daughter both were the only ones in their classes so they we default 1st place Senior Doe and doe under a year as well as Grand Champions.

And the last one-
🍦Bit Of Something Twist Me Up *B took 1st place Get Of Sire!

So aside from a few bumps in the road, I am happy with all the girls who showed today! I’m very happy with Damali, she is a mostly feral goat that I have an understanding with and she actually did so incredibly well for a goat like her!

CinderTrails Up 4 Pancakes or "Dippin' Dots"

Another kind of exciting girl, this one is more of a project I wanted to see what Twist could improve on a doe that was ultimately bred for color. Dippin' Dots' dam, Cookie Dough, wasn't the most productive doe but I enjoyed milking her because she tried and her udder texture and teats were so nice and pliable. Production wasn't there but her conformation was decent so pairing her with Twist with the goal of increasing production while keeping the conformation, was where I was hoping it was go, the only thing that I don't like on this girl is that she's a little steep dumped and a little narrower in stature. I will be pairing her with Dreamer (for now) to help out that width and help level out that rump a bit!

Aside from the negatives, I am still very excited to see what this girl can do as well! Twist offspring are always exciting to watch!

Dippin' Dots will also be making her first show debut next month as well!

CinderTrails Justa Simple Deal or "Dealia"

This girl is my most exciting yearling, crossing a powerful doe on a buck carrying heavy dairy power. I have raved about her since she was born, her build, her strength, her width and her dairy-ness always makes me stop and go WOW I love that girl.

I cannot wait for this girl to freshen. She is so much like her dam, I am hoping that Twist has added in the teat length without changing the udder shape to much, that is Damali's only weakness is her teat size. She is a heavy duty and productive doe much like the Promisedland style does.

Dealia is so promising, I have another potential *prospect* I am looking at to breed this beautiful girl to and I can't wait to share more but for now, drool over my "Swiss BaayBee" like it do everyday! I can't wait for her show debut at the end of august!

An updated look at the AQI across the region.. Michigan is now engulfed in the worst air quality on earth right now as wildfire smoke will linger through Friday.

This haziness is from the Wildfire smoke coming down from Canada. It wasn’t supposed to get this bad down here for another 24 hrs and it’s only going to get worse. We’re worried about the goats especially our older ladies but we’re doing everything we can ensure everyone stays safe and healthy.

Final draft of the tentative breeding schedule, we have potential dates here, the posted c0st of any potential kid, some notes and color chances or other bonuses like polled, or blue eyes, which kids I will be tentatively retaining (subject to change) and what will likely be available, and whether or not the pair is confirmed bred. I will update this as breeding season approaches with confirmed breedings and more. We will be utilizing a decent amount of A.I (Artificial insemination) this year, some does are getting up there in age and I am down a buck as well as the chances of Nashville getting to cover anyone this year is slim despite being on the list to cover some of the coming yearlings.

You may notice color coded dates in groups, we are pushing next kidding season to start end of February and spaced out as 3 does a week until the end of may. This is to reduce my stress with the cold temperatures and weather changes Michigan likes to throw at us. with this change also comes the way were raising..

We will be doing a lot of things differently next kidding season starting with co-raising, I don't have it in me to bottle feed the way I used to so- dams will have their kids during the daytime to learn to forage and get as much milk as they want but will be pinned up at night with me and get a night time bottle. This way I can accomplish a few things, starting with 1. smarter kids who will understand from a young age how to forage, 2. we can keep them bottle baby friendly while not having to trip over them when we need to move about the pastures, 3. we can milk share, milking 2x daily just isn't always possible for me and this makes it so I can milk in the morning then let the babies out with their dams for the day then we all get what we want.

Will there still be straight bottle babies? yes, not every doe is a great dam willing to raise a kid. I will definitely still have full time bottle kids, but with this plan that will be way less of a chance and way less kids I have to fight with. Also, with 3 does kidding at a time, grafting kids on to different moms (if ever need be) is also an option to explore.

We absolutely love this little doe, her dam definitely out produced herself with this one based completely on conformation- Echo has better and stronger legs, less posty in the rear, more level along the spine, not to mention her beauty, she has the most interesting markings!

I can’t wait to see what this little lady has in store next year when she gets to freshen!

Ps- she is her mother’s daughter, she will indeed eat your pants. Gretel has, on many occasions, eaten holes in my clothes.

Tentative breeding schedule, more to come soon but this is what we're looking at currently! We will be doing our very first A.I's this year, which we are excited for! We're also hoping to retain a couple of our own homebred bucklings next year as well. Damali, Celest, and Swiss latte are our oldest does and likely won't have any kids available next year unless I am blessed with an abundance, Fleet is also getting up there in age as well, her available kids will be very few but still possible. I expect a decent amount of available kids and a decent amount of keepers! the finalized list with the pairs and all their details will be posted soon!
