Training with Rock and Sally is something I work on every single day. No matter how well your dog is doing, there’s always something to practice. Even just 15 minutes a day can make a big difference.

We work on loose leash walking, basic obedience, and everyday manners. I also keep a stash of special treats for those more challenging situations or when we’re introducing something new. Huge thanks to Dr. Penny Farmer for teaching me the value of saving those extra special rewards for the moments that matter most.

Consistency builds confidence and helps create a well behaved dog.

If you have questions about training or would like a little extra help with your pup, reach out. We’re always happy to help!

Myth vs Fact: Acupuncture 🐾✨

Let’s clear up some of the weird assumptions people still have about acupuncture because honestly… it’s way more interesting (and science-backed) than most people think.

Myth: Acupuncture is just “poking needles in for relaxation”
Fact: Acupuncture stimulates specific points in the body that can influence nerves, blood flow, and natural pain relief pathways. It’s used in both human and veterinary medicine as part of a real treatment plan.

Myth: It only works if you believe in it
Fact: Animals don’t have opinions on wellness trends. Pets still show measurable responses like reduced pain, improved mobility, and calmer behavior.

Myth: It’s painful
Fact: Most pets actually relax during sessions. Many get sleepy or even nap. The needles are extremely thin and placed carefully.

Myth: It replaces all other treatments
Fact: Acupuncture is usually part of a bigger plan. Think meds, rehab, diagnostics, diet, and supportive care all working together.

Dr Penny Farmer offers acupuncture as part of a thoughtful, whole body approach to care, including therapies like acoustic acupuncture and other supportive modalities depending on the case.

Can weather affect arthritis pain?

When barometric pressure drops before rain or storms, joints can feel more stiff and sore. Cold weather can also tighten muscles and make movement more uncomfortable, especially in older pets or those with chronic joint disease.

You might notice your horse, dog or cat is slower to get up, less playful, or more hesitant on stairs on those days.

Support can help. Acupuncture and acoustic acupuncture may improve comfort, circulation, and mobility in a gentle, non invasive way.

If your pet is showing these signs, call us to talk through options with Dr. Penny Farmer and see what pain relief plan fits best.

Mosquito season is here, and with it comes an increased risk of heartworm disease for our pets.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that indoor pets don’t need heartworm prevention. The truth is that mosquitoes can easily find their way inside homes, putting both indoor and outdoor pets at risk. It only takes one infected mosquito bite to transmit heartworms.

Heartworm disease can cause serious damage to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Treatment for dogs can be lengthy, expensive, and difficult on both pets and their families. In cats, there is no approved treatment for heartworm disease, which makes prevention even more important.

Regular testing is an important part of keeping your pet protected. At Healing Point Animal Services, we test for heartworm disease as well as several common tick borne diseases with just a small blood sample. These simple tests help us identify potential problems early and make sure your pet’s prevention program is working as intended.

If your pet is due for testing or needs a refill on prevention, now is a great time to get caught up. We can help you choose the right product for your pet, and many preventatives can be conveniently ordered through our pharmacy and shipped directly to your door.

Protecting your pet starts with prevention. If you have questions about heartworm testing, tick borne disease screening, or monthly preventatives, reach out to us. We’re always happy to help.
