Happy Thanksgiving! The Animal Center will be closed today (11/27) and tomorrow (11/28). If you have an emergency, please call (308) 760-2278.

Also, friendly reminder that our pets don’t know it’s Thanksgiving, so it’s okay to give them their regular diet today! If they are going to partake in the feast, please avoid the foods below and limit the amount of other “people” food to try to prevent pancreatitis, which is often caused by overindulgence in fatty foods.

We are thankful for all of you, our clients, and your pets and we hope you all have a great holiday!

It is only fitting that we wrap up Veterinary Technician Appreciation week by shining the spotlight on our senior veterinary technician, Malia! Malia has dedicated the last 21 YEARS to caring for and loving on your pets. She has a special interest in exotic animal medicine and loves working with cattle. Malia is truly a “jack of all trades” and there isn’t anything at the clinic that she can’t do. Her favorite part of working at The Animal Center is that no days are ever the same because in mixed animal practice, we see a variety of types of animals and cases. In her free time, you can catch her riding her motorcycle, traveling, drinking white Monsters, and working on arts and crafts projects. Thanks for all you do, Malia!

We hope this week has helped you get to know our veterinary technicians and technician assistants a little better! Please join us in showing appreciation for some of the superstars at The Animal Center!

Today, the spotlight shines on our veterinary technician, Xalynn! Xalynn started working at The Animal Center in December 2022 when she was still in high school. After graduation, she came to work with us full time and has been working hard over the last few months to become a technician. Her favorite part of the job is helping with surgical procedures. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her family and friends, spending time with her dog, and traveling. Thanks for all you do, Xalynn!

Meet our newest veterinary technician, Haley! Haley started working at the clinic in July 2025 and is currently studying to become a licensed veterinary technician. She strives to create a safe space for all our patients and wants to help them feel comfortable and confident during their appointments. You’ll often catch her talking to your pets like they’re her best friend (because obviously they are! ☺️). Haley is fully embracing her dog mom era and spends her free time with her German Shepherd, Lucian. Thanks for all you do, Haley!

Next up in the spotlight is our other veterinary technician assistant, Amanda! Amanda did an internship at The Animal Center last year while studying at Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture and came to work with us full time in May 2025. She plays an integral hybrid role at the clinic and is working towards becoming a veterinary technician. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is helping sick patients feel better. When not at work, Amanda enjoys riding horses, diamond art, and playing the violin. Thanks for all you do, Amanda!

This week, we will be shining the spotlight on our veterinary technicians and technician assistants to celebrate Vet Tech Week!

First up is one of our veterinary technician assistants, Kayla! Kayla has worked at The Animal Center for 6 months and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, especially in boarding. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting and spending time with her lovable Labrador, Koda. Kayla gravitated towards working in veterinary medicine because she can truly say that she loves all animals. Rumor has it that she even helped relocate a snake who tried to enter the clinic without an appointment 😉 Thanks for all you do, Kayla!
