Let the Lord have the reins of your life and pay no mind to what you know or don't know. Every step your horse takes is an opportunity to thank the Lord. God will blaze straight the trail to a thankful cowpuncher. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

SHINING SPARK (Genuine Doc x Diamonds Sparkle) X PEEPAROO (Gallo Del Cielo x Peepin Lil)

Shiney Red Cielo, or "Spark" is a 2008 sorrel stallion standing at our place this spring. He is a NRCHA money earner and 2x World Show Qualifier with limited showing before his retirement from the show pen. He is a gentle stallion, who is friendly and easy to be around. His foals are the same way! Due to limited resources in our rural area, live cover only at this time. 5 panel N/N.

Consider this exceptional son of Shining Spark for your 2024 Breeding Plans!

Teaching a horse to engage their core is a vital part of their physical and mental fitness.

A horse with a high head and hollow back will often exhibit signs of discomfort, frustration, and anxiety. In certain cases, the dorsal spinous processes can even impinge on one another, causing extreme pain. If you can take this horse and encourage them to lower their head to a more neutral position, this will encourage them to lift their back and drive with their hindquarters. This helps round out and “open” their back. In most cases, you’ll find your partner feeling less discomfort and anxiety.

Edit to add: This is not a fix for Impinging Dorsal Spinous Processes. Seeing your equine veterinarian for a diagnosis and proper treatment is always the best way to go!

Included are some photos of a “Hattie” who dropped by for a quick refresher on the aforementioned homework.

Borrowed from Colton Woods Horsemanship.

Not every trainer is for every owner.
Not every owner is for every trainer.
Not every trainer is for every horse.
Not every horse is for every trainer.
Not every owner is for every horse.
And not every horse is for every owner.

And that's OKAY.

An integral part of our program includes using the c**ts on the ranch. They may not ever go on to be ranch horses…But the experience and skills they develop while on the ranch can be helpful in any life situation.

Pictured here is “Redman” from Sunrise H Quarter Horses out of North Dakota. He is fancy colored, kind, and intelligent!

He will be for sale soon.

Roughly 700 miles and 3 states later, Grandpa and I made it home with this sweetheart of a stallion. ♥️ We left at 5:30am and just now made it home. We covered a lot of country and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Welcome to the circus, Shiney Red Cielo. Thank you to CassidyandTandi Jesperson for giving us the opportunity to bring this guy home to the Sandhills!

The topic nobody wants to talk about - Business and Friendship.

If your friend has a small business, you should patronize it. Support them in whatever way you can, whether it’s spreading the word, buying a hoodie, or sending a horse. Don’t call up asking for a discount because you are buddies. (We’ve all been guilty of doing that in some capacity!) Chances are, that business is barely breaking even as it is. It’s discouraging to have to devalue your skillset to suit someone else’s budget.

We have truly been blessed with clients who are friends and friends who are clients.

Support those small businesses!

Happy Friday!

Tait and little Cooper are thrilled to spend time together doing what they do best - working on horses.

This pony belongs to a good friend of ours and we love visiting him and fixing him a little pedicure and plenty of scratches.

Two words: Preparation and Exposure

If we can prepare our horses for the tasks they will need to be able to successfully accomplish, and then expose them to these things, we will set them up for lifelong success.

The horse in this photo is Drifter. We have owned him since he was a weanling, and have done everything imaginable on him. He spent countless hours being the main mount for doctoring yearlings, going to brandings, and helping neighbors. This fall we decided to kick him out to pasture to relax and be a horse. We believe that is the best thing we can do for them. Everyone needs a break at some point.

He got the call to rope and doctor a pr*****ed cow on cornstalks yesterday. Because he was prepared and exposed to this so much in the last year, he rode off like a champ. He lined her out and allowed Tait to make his shot. He did, and then they gently laid her down and tied her.

Moral of the story is that preparation and exposure is key in making a successful ranch horse.

What do we require prior to training?

We get a lot of questions about what we require prior to sending your horse to us for training. At a minimum, we do ask that your horse is broke to lead and has had their feet trimmed at least once. For horses 4 years of age and older, a dental float is necessary.

Why do we ask this of you?

We often have so many horses in for training at a time that when your horse arrives for schooling, we prefer her to be somewhat ready to roll. It’s a whole lot easier to teach a young c**t to stand politely for farriery than a 4 year old half-halter broke project horse.

“Bigfoot” was purchased by my wife as a weanling. She halter broke her and taught her to pick up her feet while she was young and manageable. Now that she’s 2 and pushing 1100 lbs, she is nice to trim and handle.
