Today, 27 October, is recognised by many as a day to remember deceased pets, linked to Mexico’s Día de Mu***os (Day of the Dead).

Some families or individuals believe that the spirits of their beloved dogs, cats and other animals return home for a special visit on 27 October.
People may light candles, display photographs, leave out favourite toys and create small memorial altars for their pets.
The specific date for remembering pets is a relatively recent development in Mexican traditions, rather than a universally observed ancient custom.
There is no scientific evidence that deceased pets literally return on this date and the image itself is a sentimental illustration of this belief.

If you have lost an animal you loved, you can use today to light a candle, look at photographs or simply remember the happiness they brought into your life & know that they are happy and free 🐾💙🌈

Whether you believe in an afterlife or not, the bond you shared with your pet was real, and the love you feel for them doesn't disappear when they pass on 💙🐾 🌈

Día de los Mu***os is almost here, a time to honor and remember the loved ones we’ve lost, including our beloved pets. 💜🐾

I set up an ofrenda for Jib last year and filled it with some of his favorite offerings: McDonald’s chicken nuggies, a pup cup, and his favorite treats.

I also left marigolds, fresh water, photos, and his bed. I lit a candle and incense to help guide his way home.

Even though he didn’t visit me in my dreams that week, I hope he still knew how deeply he is loved and how much we miss him.

Maybe one of these days, he’ll come visit the ofrenda we made just for him. 💜

If you’re setting up an ofrenda for your pet, I’d love to hear about them. Tell me their name and what you’re leaving for them. 🐾

A little note: This isn’t AI-generated art! I made this in Canva, and I’m sharing what I’ve learned through my own research. I’m still learning, so please chime in respectfully if I’ve missed something or gotten anything wrong. I want to honor this tradition with love and respect.

It’s Día de Mu***os para Mascotas: Day of the Dead for pets, and a nice reminder that they’re never too far…

Celebrated annually on October 27th, tonight marks the night when the spirits of departed animals are believed to return to the living world to visit their families.

Many create ofrendas, or altars to commemorate their pet and welcome them back, with their favorite treats, toys, and memorial items.

It’s a day to remember, a day to honor, a day that proves love never dies.

Who are you honoring and hoping stops by today?
