July 5th is one of the busiest days for animal shelters, and for one reason: they’re bustling with runaways who went missing in an attempt to escape the noise from celebratory fireworks. Remember that your dog’s reaction to fireworks is one of fear. Imagine how that must feel.

Make sure your dog's chip is registered and information is current. Also, make sure information on tags is current. The shelters are overflowing and they need to be able to get your dog back to you right away.

I'm Chubby Checker, and I urgently need a temporary foster home while I wait for my forever family. I'm two years old, weigh 18 pounds, and I'm fully vetted, spayed, and chipped, and let’s say I’m the best little guy.

Meet Bijou, the one-of-a-kind pup with a big personality and an even bigger sense of adventure! This little terrier mix is curious, playful, and full of energy, always ready to explore the world around her.

Bijou is crate-trained and doing great with house training as long as she has supervision. She’s already picking up solid leash skills for her age and keeps learning more every day. True to her terrier roots, she loves to dig and investigate, and she has a habit of putting just about anything in her mouth—rocks, pinecones, you name it! So, she’ll need someone who can keep a close eye on her during outdoor adventures.

Stuffed toys? They don’t stand a chance. But after a long day of play, she’s happiest curled up with a soft fleece blanket, ready to recharge for her next adventure.

Bijou is sweet, spunky, and endlessly curious—the perfect match for an active family who can keep up with her playful spirit and give her all the love she deserves.

❗Unrealistic Expectations Are a Death Sentence for Shelter Dogs-Hard Truths from the Front Lines of Rescue

Do we realize how much is unfairly expected of shelter dogs?

🚨 Oreo McFlurry died because no one showed up. NO FOSTER. NO ADOPTER....nothing. That’s the truth. 💔

People expect perfection; immediate obedience, flawless behavior, and no adjustment period. They overlook the trauma these dogs have endured.

They ignore the decompression guidelines we provide. And when the dog doesn’t meet these unrealistic expectations, they’re returned.

Returned to us, heartbroken, confused, and with nowhere to go.

These dogs need our help; their intentions, even if you don’t always like them, are pure. They are always upfront about who they are. They don’t complain or dwell on their hardships.

Can you imagine a human enduring what these dogs go through? Injured, neglected, starved, left outside, then suddenly hauled off to a chaotic shelter; and if they’re lucky, sent to a vet’s office, loaded onto a truck for two days, and finally handed off to strangers. Imagine how you would react to that.

Now, think about how they react.

We know you care. We know you want happy endings; so do we. However, sometimes we need to speak honestly about what happens behind the scenes and have an open conversation.
We are a foster-based rescue. That means:
🚨 No facility.
🚨 No paid staff.
🚨 No magic wand.

These dogs didn’t ask to be here; this mess is 100% caused by selfish humans.

We owe these dogs more. We owe them a chance to decompress, to understand they are safe. We owe them patience and kindness as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.

Dogs are not plug-and-play. If we are going to save them, we have to help them learn first.

If you’re sitting on your phone saying, “someone should do som**hing,” we’re here to remind you: YOU are someone.

We are not interested in unrealistic demands; we are interested in helping our dogs, most of whom barely made it out alive.

Skallywag left Behind in a Shelter After the Director Was Arrested for M**h — Miraculously Still Alive 🙏💔

When the director of a small rural shelter was arrested for m**h use, every single dog was left behind, abandoned at an already under-resourced facility in a forgotten corner of Georgia (PHOTO AND VIDEO IN COMMENTS). 📷

Scared, innocent dogs with no way out and no one coming for them. This beautiful boy, black with a white chest, full of quiet grace and a gentle spirit, had no idea what was happening. He only knew he and the others in the shelter were alone.

But when we heard about this heartbreaking situation, we stepped in, and this boy we call Skallywag is safe. He’s receiving loving, expert care from our trusted veterinary partners in Georgia.

Skallywag is only alive today because of our community, whose donations and unwavering support make these lifesaving missions possible.

Not every rescue involves a public plea or dramatic story; many happen quietly, behind the scenes. But we always want you to know: your help is the reason these dogs get out alive.

This was one of those moments, a group of rescuers came together to ensure these forgotten dogs weren’t left behind. And Skallywag is proof of what’s possible when we all unite.

💖 CHAKA KHAN IS SAFE

She came to us as Rocket Lady— A beautiful girl sitting in a crowded shelter with a horrific re**al prolapse, bleeding, vulnerable, and in unthinkable pain.

Today, she’s known as Chaka Khan (because this little diva is a wiggly rump shaker 💃🏽), and she is receiving incredible medical care thanks to your support. She’s healing. She’s comfortable. She’s safe. And for the first time in a long time, she’s free from pain.

Please never doubt how much your kindness means.

Every cent, every share, every tag, it matters. It creates miracles like Chaka Khan. It changes lives. It saves lives.

Meet Ortley—the best boy you could ever ask for! With a heart as big as his sweet, soulful eyes, he’s the kind of dog who makes you feel like the luckiest human around.

Ortley gets along well with dogs and even cats, but small children can be a challenge—he tends to mistake them for sheep in need of herding! This playful pup has a few "must-haves" for his forever home: a fenced-in yard where he can zoom around, play ball, and burn off energy. He absolutely loves playing catch and would happily keep you entertained all day!

After all that fun, Ortley is the king of snuggles and cherishes quiet moments, making every second with him feel like a warm hug.

We are urgently looking for fosters. We have really good and well-deserving dogs that need to move immediately and require a safe, temporary place to stay while we find them forever homes.

Summer is always the hardest time of year to find people willing to open their homes, but we hope you might be the exception. 💔

Full of puppy energy and sweetness, Mary is learning her basics in foster care and gaining confidence every day. She thrives with structure, adores belly rubs, and is equal parts cowgirl and angel. She's one-of-a-kind and ready to love you forever.
