Everyone meet LionHeart Maverick The Human Knight(registered name), otherwise known as Maverick. Weslow Danes has graciously allowed me to be his guardian home and become part of the Taylor pack. I am beyond excited and in love! We have high hopes in making him a therapy dog and a future stud to Maya and Hazel.

Rehoming an older dog is never easy or quick. After multiple meet and greets and small sleep over, I am excited to say Sebastian has found his new couch. Thank you Eric and Bella (fur sister) for working on making this relationship work.

Recovery hasn’t been the smoothest for the newest queen of the house but we got some great news today. Her biopsy of the mammary tumor was benign: complex mammary adenoma with clear margins. Her large abdominal incision and mammary incisions are healing great. She “popped” 3 of the 4 sutures on her shoulder/leg incision. It continues to heal ( cleaning twice a day) but very slowly. Still as velcro snuggly as ever🩷

I am so lucky to be able to bring my pups to work (homecare) with me. Zeus, Fiona and Anya have all been multiple times. Now it’s Maya’s turn… new noises (pulse ox monitor, suction machine, concentrator), new people (the amazing Filius family) and new fur friends (Winston, Ruby and Max). She did amazing and will be making routine return visits.

Today is the day she becomes the second Queen (Greta is 1st queen) of the house. Please send your positive vibes this sweet girls way as she goes in for her spay and stomach tack. Such a good mama and the perfect velcro dog.

And so her journey begins. Hazel Bea aka Mary Alice has found her furever couch and family. Congrats Harkes family on adding this sweet girl to your pack. Don’t worry you’ll see plenty of puppy spam as she will be coming back to visit on a regular basis. The Harkes’s have agreed to be a guardian family in hopes of Hazel coming back here to deliver (after OFA testing) some amazing pups🩷

Terminology Tuesday ~ Trigger Stacking 🐶

Have you ever had one of those days that nothing seems to go right? 😔

The same thing happens with our dogs when it comes to things that cause them to have reactions or moments of over excitement! 🐾

Think of it as this…

Your dog gets up after a night of your baby or toddler crying (they didn’t get enough sleep) and then the mail person startles them (which wouldn’t usually cause them to bark but today it did). Then, you take your dog for a walk and there is a dog across the street that they can usually walk by no problem. But today, they bark at them and lunge. This is trigger stacking. One thing on top of the other on top of the other until they can’t take it any longer.

The next time your dog is having a harder day with being more reactive or barking, ask yourself, what may have happened earlier in the day? Could it be trigger stacking?

Is your dog having a harder day? Take some time to give them moments of relaxation and decompression by…

1️⃣ Providing opportunities for tasty enrichment activities that promote licking and or sniffing!

2️⃣ Take your dog somewhere quiet to go for a walk rather than a busy area where many triggers may be!

3️⃣ Focus on things that bring both you and your dog joy. This could be snuggles on the couch watching your favorite TV show while your baby or toddler is napping or a quick game of fetch in the yard!
