Epicenter outdoors will be doing the first of hopefully many Food Plot and Habitat Edicational Seminars on Saturday January 24th in Ellwood City. I promise you if thrive on educating yourself to be a better Land Steward and are wanting to maximize the potential of your property, you will not want to miss this! Aaron Bigalke of Bigalke Outdoor Enterprises and GRO….Grandpa Ray Outdoors(seed company that I have been selling since day one) will do a seminar that will be very, very in depth regarding food plots, soil health, how to actually read a soil test fertilizers and multiple multiple other things that’s going to be more technical information than you will be able to intake in an evening! lol Aaron has planted literally thousands of acres of food plots, pollinators and native grasses mainly in his home state of Wisconsin for clients and has been testing seed genetics, mix’s and different pollinator and native grasses forever. I’m also going to try to incorporate multiple other things in this seminar, which should probably last around 3 to 4 hours and as I cement the other details, I will keep everybody posted through social media and as soon as I can confirm the other speaker I will give some details about that. Cost of the event is going to be $25 per person. Any youth under 18 will obviously be free and women and spouses also are free if you choose to bring them along…this cost is going to help me help pay for the event hall and for expenses to get the speakers to this event…. We are going to be giving a bunch of stuff away…which I will post as we get closer to the event. I will provide food and drink at a small intermission and also you will be getting 10% off of all your food plot orders that you make at the event which could pay for the cost of the ticket very quickly very quickly. If you own 5 acres or 500 acres attending this event will help you so much I can’t emphasize it enough. If you have any questions or want to reserve a ticket reach out to me at 724-333-5635. You can contact me for details on that also.

As temperatures drop, it’s time to think carefully about water training. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥, 𝐨𝐫 𝐞-𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐠, potentially creating an aversion to water. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Dogs may jump into chilly water, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe for training. Stick to water temperatures above 65°F for comfort. Below 65°F, evaluate your setup and adjust for lower-stress training. Below 55°F? Skip the water work altogether.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
Monitor more than water temperature. Wind, cloud cover, and air temperature impact your dog’s ability to stay warm. If you’d feel chilled in light clothing, it’s not a good day for water training.

𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐔𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧
Start every session with a brisk 5-minute walk to get your dog’s blood flowing. Finish by toweling them off and taking a slow 10-minute walk on lead to prevent stiffness.

𝐀𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧
Choose low-stress set-ups that minimize mental, physical, or e-collar pressure. Keep swim distances short (under 75 yards) and avoid setups requiring complex decisions, like shoreline blinds or down-the-shore marks.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐭, 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭
Cold water isn’t worth the risk. Taking the time to evaluate conditions and make wise choices can prevent setbacks.

Stay safe and train smart as the season changes. Happy training!
