Today is Lost Dog Awareness Day, and there’s nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a “LOST DOG” flyer on your neighborhood telephone pole or local community page. Here are some important ways to protect your pet in case they go missing:

🔴 Make sure your dog is always wearing their ID and rabies tags
🔴 If you don't already, make sure to have your pet microchipped
🔴 Find and verify your pet's microchip information at www.petlink.net/microchip-search
🔴 Register your lost dog with Lost Dogs Illinois at www.lostdogsillinois.org - it's free, and they have some great tools, including a flyer creator and search tool if your pet goes missing.
🔴 Create flyers/signs with a photo of your pet, their name and description, and your contact information. Distribute these in your neighborhood or where your pet was last seen. Also, share this information on local social media sites like Nextdoor and local community Facebook groups like What's Happening in Elgin IL?, Happening in Algonquin, Lake In The Hills, And Crystal Lake Illinois, and West Dundee, East Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Carpentersville Community Support.

Lost dogs CAN find their way back home, so let’s do all we can to help increase their chances of being found!

As pet lovers, there are many eco-friendly choices we can make to help protect the environment.

🌿 Use biodegradable waste bags for dog walks.
🌎 Opt for eco-friendly pet products, including toys, food bowls, and natural shampoos.
♻️ Reduce, reuse, recycle - consider composting pet waste, recycling packaging from pet products, or donating gently used pet supplies to a shelter or rescue.

Hi all- I’m Jersey, Dundee Animal Hospital’s pet of the week!

Also known around these parts as Jers, I’m a 12-year-old Shetland sheepdog who is not only beautiful but I also have a very gentle personality. I enjoy playing with my mom’s grandchildren (they're the greatest!) and love playing with my ratty chewed-up toy squirrel. And hey, look at me- I'm all dressed up for the Easter bunny's visit this weekend too!

Toxic Flowers Guide 🌷

Spring is in full bloom! Did you know that some popular spring flowers can be toxic to pets?

Flowers to AVOID if you have pets:
❌ Lilies
❌ Tulips & Daffodils
❌ Hyacinths
❌ Azaleas & Rhododendrons
❌ Foxglove

If you suspect your pet has chewed on or ingested any of these flowers, contact us immediately. 🌿

Hi, I’m Felix (aka Fee Fee), Dundee Animal Hospital’s pet of the week!

I may be small, but I’m full of personality! I’m an Isabella dapple dachshund and I’m just under a year old. An Isabella dapple has a light, tan-colored coat and spotted pattern, and we’re known to be smart, loyal and independent. I love receiving and chewing up new toys and look forward to seeing everyone when I come visit Dundee Animal Hospital.

Hello there- I’m Duckie, pet of the week here at Dundee Animal Hospital!

I’m just over 4 ½ years old and also go by Ducks or Duckers. I love pup cups, jumping super high, playing with squeaky balls, and running as fast as I can. I do also like lower-key activities like taking naps, laying out in the sun and visiting my grandparents. I love everyone I come in contact when I’m at Dundee Animal Hospital- in fact, I love people in general!

Our Algonquin and Elgin locations will be closed this Thursday, November 24th for Thanksgiving. However, if you need us in an emergency on Thanksgiving day, we are always here for you and your pet at our Dundee location- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
