The shepherd puppies are all grown up and will be looking for new homes soon! Raising these little pups was a very rewarding and tiring experience. They are little balls of energy and we are excited to see them to move on to their next stage of life. Two weeks ago we received a foster German shepherd and two days after coming to stay with us, she had a litter of 4 puppies! The babies are all growing like weeds and should be opening their eyes soon. Mama is starting to really build a bond with us and trusts us with her babies.
Thank you to New Albany Pet Rescue for giving us this opportunity! We are so excited to be able to help get these puppies off to a good start in life and socialize their mom.

Our very first board and train clients are headed home, and while we are sad to see them go, we are so happy with all that they have accomplished! Angel, Scarlet, and Renee have worked so hard together and now understand each other so much better. We are proud of all three of you! Thank you for trusting us and we will see you all soon!

Journey is the OG member of The Lab Pack. At 17 years old, he’s just about done it all. He’s performed training demonstrations with Joel all across the country, including one for Iowa State veterinary students, along with commercials and photo shoots with Jack Hanna. Journey now spends his much deserved retirement laying in the sun and watching his younger dog siblings romp around.

Meet Maddie! Maddie is a four year old lab that was released from her service dog training through Canine Companions for being a little too wild, but that’s not a problem for us! Maddie loves to put all that energy to good use in her training sessions, and by doing demonstrations at various organizations such as, the Ohio State University Animal Science Department, and the canine program at Flying Horse Farms kids camp. Stay tuned to see some of Maddie’s impressive talents!

We are so proud and honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization! Thank you Canine Companions!

💙 Longtime Canine Companions volunteer Joel Slaven is pretty active in the animal training community. Some of you may recognize him as the head animal expert for the movie, “Ace Ventura Pet Detective,” as well as Disney's “Mickey Mouse Club.”

Joel has worked closely with wildlife extraordinaire and former Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Director Jack Hanna as an exotic animal trainer, even accompanying him on the Late Show with David Letterman. He also has experience in theater as the lead dog trainer for “101 Dalmatians, the Musical."

The walls of Joel’s home are covered with photographed and signed evidence of the amazing things he’s done over the years. His wall dedicated to Canine Companions is particularly special. In his downtime from recently founding his own business, Joel Slaven’s Dog Lodge, Joel continues to his time by working with our training staff in the North Central Region. This includes helping train puppy classes to assist with setting Canine Companions up for success.

Earlier this year, Joel hosted a fundraising event at our New Albany campus, which resulted in more than $40,000 raised for our mission. He continues to spread the word about Canine Companions wherever he goes, building connections and spreading kindness.

We're incredibly fortunate to have Joel as a dedicated volunteer to our mission. Thanks for all you do, Joel!
