ā¢Grooming Clientsā¢
I just wanted to address a few things since coming back to work! Sorry for the long post but I hope you read it in its entirety to fully understanding where Iām coming from!
I want to remind everyone that I do not work on Wednesdays. And that I need you to come at your appointment time. Not show up when itās convenient for you. If that appointment time you scheduled doesnāt work, let me know so I can schedule you for a time that works best for both of us!
Secondly, I have come across several folks wanting to adjust their reoccurring schedule. I want to be super clear here- I have always said that if you want to be a client of mine you need to be on a regular schedule. Every 4, 6, 8 weeks and I will go every 10 weeks with certain dogs(all depending upon coat type and how you maintain the coat between grooms). And anywhere in between that 4-10 weeks. But you must stay within that timeframe. I have always had that as apart of my business model and if you want to stay on my client list you need to be on that schedule. Most grooming salons are the same!! Most hair salons work that way also. Itās to help maintain the dogās coat. I completely understand that some of you tried to do groomings at home and parts of it worked for you but I canāt keep getting dogs who are only partly done and the parts that arenāt done are matted. Not fair to me or the dog. With winter coming lots of people think they can go longer between appointments because they want their dog to stay long. But thatās actually the opposite of what you should be doing. If you want a longer coat then you actually need to come in MORE often. Because letās be honest, most people are not brushing and combing to keep dogs maintained with that long hairš so coming in say every four or five weeks is better because I can then help you keep that longer coat. I make sure the mats are gone and coat is healthy and combed through. Coming that often doesnāt necessary mean you get a full haircut at each visit. We do a maintenance groom in between full groomings! I hope this is making sense. The longer you wait between appointments only means more matting can occur and ultimately means shave down which is not what most people want for the winter months.
I have worked very hard for many years to get the type of clients I have now that reflect who and how I want to continue on my grooming journey! There are many I turn away because they donāt fit what I look for! I am so very proud to have the clients I do right now! And I would love nothing more than to keep it that way! I donāt want to revert to the way things were when I started and people coming on such random schedules and dogs coming in matted and scared. Not only are regular schedules necessary to keep your dogs clean and mat free but itās for their mental sake also. Dogs who are not on a routine and regular schedule are much harder to groom. They are not as well behaved and are more stressed out. The dogs I have now (even though some may act like coming to see me is tortureš) they are actually very well behaved and are in a routine with me! I do everything in the same order and they know exactly what comes next so nothing is unexpected. The dogs who are out of routine/regular schedule are so nervous and canāt seem to calm themselves despite all my efforts to help them. And last but not least, I lose money/income when you decide to not be on a regular schedule. I stopped taking new clients so I can solely focus on all my current clients and give them the best version on me without over working myself! I stopped so I can give all of you and your dogs the best! Best version of me without crowded schedules, a slow calm environment, a person who can truly understand your dog and their needs without pushing through dogs all day! I take the time to read each dog and make connections! Even if when you drop off they act like they want to go with you, as soon as you are out of sight they are all over me! They know Iām not there to hurt them and they know the routine of what it means to come to me.
I know this was a long post but Iām trying to help you understand my point of view! I work with dogs and many different coat types everyday so I know what Iām talking about if I say, hey we need to be on a four week schedule to keep your dogs coat maintained as best we can or hey, your dogs coat type doesnāt require as much attention as others so we can push out appointments to every 8, 9, or 10 weeks. I just need you to stay on that regular schedule otherwise we will have to just part ways as much as I hate to say itš Its important for the dogs and for me and my business.
Thank you for reading and hopefully understanding!!
