Adding a canine companion to your home can be stressful!! Is this dog going to fit in? Is it going to be healthy? Is it's behavior going to change? These are all VALID questions. Whether you are adding an adult, senior or puppy these are questions that go through anyone's head (even the professionals sometimes). The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals is a central spot for all things canine health and has put together some tips on questions to ask a potential breeder, but also any potential adoption.

AKC Muncie Dog Show, Iced Tea Cluster is coming up 🐾
August 13–16, 2026 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Muncie.

Have you ever been to a dog show? Now is your chance, plus it is free to visit! Here are some tips on how best to come visit the Muncie Dog Show and see some amazing dogs! What is your favorite breed?

Tips and tricks for a great visit:

🐾 Check the judging schedule so you can find your favorite breed and head to the right ring early. Mid morning is often the busiest where you will see the most dogs. Afternoon, usually around 1pm or 2pm, is when you see the Group Rings. This is where you will see one of each different breed in the ring together!
🐾 Leave your personal dogs at home, AKC events are restricted to only dogs and pets that are entered in the show. Best to leave your own pets at home for this trip!
🐾 Ask before petting, and please do not be upset if the answer is no, many dogs are working and have been groomed for the ring! Don’t get discouraged though and keep asking. Don’t ask to pet a dog right before they are showing, that is not usually a great time as they are about to compete!
🐾 Give dogs space near ring entrances and exits, it gets crowded fast around those areas so stay clear so people can get in and out!
🐾 Expect a crowd, keep kids close and be patient, it is part of the fun. Find someone friendly to ask questions about the show if you want to!
🐾 Have questions about a specific breed? Interested in the different personalities? Find the breed you are interested in on the judging program and go check them out!

Have you wondered what the difference is between "Private" sessions and "Group" Classes. Private sessions are personalized appointments for your dog and your family. These are fully customizable and can pivot direction if needed. They go at YOUR pace and come with a summary after each session to help remember what all we covered.
Group Classes are great for social dogs who need to learn to work around other dogs, for pet parents that would like a refresher on training, or even hard working families that need an evening option. These classes are typically more economical due to multiple dogs/families sharing the space. There is a set program and curriculum, but I do try to leave time each night to troubleshoot specific problems.
