The moment I realized something had to change…

Even though I’ve spent decades helping riders connect more deeply with their horses, I know what it’s like to struggle with disconnection and misunderstanding.

Years ago, I thought I was “doing everything right.” I believed good training meant giving clear directions and expecting compliance. I didn’t realize I wasn’t really listening to what my horses were trying to tell me.

Then came the horses who changed everything.

⭐ Star came home from a trainer rearing and anxious, even though she’d gone there fully prepared.
⭐ Wyatt showed me that punishment didn’t build trust, it only created fear.
⭐ Lazz was so sensitive that every cue, every breath, every thought mattered.

The real turning point came the day someone told me that every time Lazz whinnied, he was being “disrespectful.” I was told to back him up each time he did it. But when he started walking into the arena whinnying and backing up at the same time, I knew something was very wrong.

That’s when I stopped listening to everyone else, and started listening to my horse.

Now, I love working with so-called “problem” horses, because I know they’re not being difficult, they’re communicating. When riders learn to hear that, everything changes.

These days, I get to help riders who feel stuck, frustrated, or even ready to give up rediscover joy and connection with their horses again. Watching that transformation never gets old.

And while sharing more of my story isn’t always easy, I know it’s important. If my journey can help another rider realize that they don’t have to choose between progress and partnership—that they can have both—then it’s worth it.

If you or someone you know is feeling disconnected from their horse, or just wants to feel inspired again, I’m offering a few free Create Your Dream Horse Strategy Sessions next week to help you start building your dream partnership.

I’ve been keeping a secret…
Even though I’ve spent decades helping riders connect with their horses - teaching them to listen, feel, and communicate clearly - I have to admit that I’ve been playing small and not yet making the impact I know I’m here to make.
Because I tend to focus more on my clients and their horses than on sharing what I do publicly, I haven’t told much of my story or why I’m so passionate about creating horse–human partnerships built on understanding rather than dominance.
But that changes this week!
I’ve joined an online challenge to help me be more visible and share more of my story with you.
Because I know there are so many riders who feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure, and I can help them create the kind of partnership that feels effortless, trusting, and joyful again.
I’ll share more of my story tomorrow
But for now, if you’d love to see more calm, connected partnerships between horses and humans, drop me a note below and cheer me on!

It’s Monday, and this week is already shaping up to be a busy one!
Between fixing fencing to get ready for Twist and Tiger’s return home for the winter, packing for Equine Affaire in MA with a friend, and adjusting to this daylight savings time nonsense… I’m definitely feeling it!

Still, I’m excited for what’s ahead. Horses coming home, learning and connecting at Equine Affaire, and (hopefully) a few quiet moments in between.

Sometimes the rain gives you the perfect excuse to slow down and focus on self-care.
I started the day with a deep tissue massage (much needed!), spent some time with my husband, and wrapped things up by diving into some computer work and learning.

It’s a good reminder that caring for ourselves is just as important as caring for our horses, both help us show up as our best selves.

What does self-care look like for you on a rainy day?

Loading up for today's lesson. Rainy days call for some work on problem areas. Positive reinforcement is perfect for this! Stocked up with hay pellets and some treats from horse show winnings. How do you tackle problem areas like clippers, trailer loading or handling feet?

Ollie had another rehab session today, but honestly, his priority was a good roll in the sand! Once that box was checked, he was all about his spa time, grooming, hooves, and boots included!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks with anniversaries and family visiting, but I’ve still been keeping up with Ollie’s rehab. Today we switched things up and tried long lining and ground driving! I haven’t pulled my lines out since working with Wyatt, and let me tell you, Ollie is a whole different experience.

He handled it really well, and I’m hopeful this can be a good alternative to the usual hand walking and lunging, which can get a little repetitive. Excited to see where this takes us!

It’s been a week with the boys!
Ollie has been keeping me busy with hand walks… and let’s just say yesterday he reminded me he still has plenty of spring in his step. He ripped loose from me a few times but thankfully he’s looking no worse for it and continues to improve.

Peanut has been the best support pony for Ollie, keeping him company, enjoying his grass time, and just being his steady little self .

And Twist hasn’t been forgotten! He’s soaking up the grooming, hoof care, and mane & tail love. Even if we’re not riding, I love the quiet time together.
