The moment I realized something had to change…
Even though I’ve spent decades helping riders connect more deeply with their horses, I know what it’s like to struggle with disconnection and misunderstanding.
Years ago, I thought I was “doing everything right.” I believed good training meant giving clear directions and expecting compliance. I didn’t realize I wasn’t really listening to what my horses were trying to tell me.
Then came the horses who changed everything.
⭐ Star came home from a trainer rearing and anxious, even though she’d gone there fully prepared.
⭐ Wyatt showed me that punishment didn’t build trust, it only created fear.
⭐ Lazz was so sensitive that every cue, every breath, every thought mattered.
The real turning point came the day someone told me that every time Lazz whinnied, he was being “disrespectful.” I was told to back him up each time he did it. But when he started walking into the arena whinnying and backing up at the same time, I knew something was very wrong.
That’s when I stopped listening to everyone else, and started listening to my horse.
Now, I love working with so-called “problem” horses, because I know they’re not being difficult, they’re communicating. When riders learn to hear that, everything changes.
These days, I get to help riders who feel stuck, frustrated, or even ready to give up rediscover joy and connection with their horses again. Watching that transformation never gets old.
And while sharing more of my story isn’t always easy, I know it’s important. If my journey can help another rider realize that they don’t have to choose between progress and partnership—that they can have both—then it’s worth it.
If you or someone you know is feeling disconnected from their horse, or just wants to feel inspired again, I’m offering a few free Create Your Dream Horse Strategy Sessions next week to help you start building your dream partnership.
