📍roughly 48 miles west of Craig, Colorado
The wild horses of Sand Wash Basin live on public BLM land, so you are welcome to visit. There are some rules in place to keep you + the horses safe.
1. You are required to stay 100 feet away from the horses. This is for everyone’s safety. When you come into the Basin on Country Road 67, there is a small information center. You can review all of the guidelines here.
2. It is free to enter, and camping is allowed. There are no campsites, and no facilities. It is rough country out there, so prepare for that if you choose to camp.
3. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and under control at all times. Besids the wild horses, the Basin is home to snakes and other predators. Please be respectful and safe.
4. Leave no trace. If you pack it in, pack it OUT!
Tips:
There are free maps of the Basin available during business hours at the Craig Chamber of Commerce, Moffat County Tourism, and the Maybell Store.
